Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Arrodantza, de 1014 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Alargada loma boscosa al S de Murube (1129 m) en un entorno donde se han algunos testigos de la prehistoria que algún caso, como el dolmen del contiguo paraje de Zualntzo, ha sucumbido al ampliarse las pistas forestales

Mi ascensión

El coche se queda en un aparcamiento público a la entrada del pueblo navarro de Larraona. En el pueblo hay muchos carteles de “No Aparcar” así que, respetemos a los vecinos

Esta ruta, muy entretenida y vistosa, comienza atravesando el pueblo hasta llegar al inicio de la rampa que nos va a llevar a la planicie por la que discurre la ruta. Es una subida de 1.5 km y 14% de desnivel por pista de cemento. Es la única subida que vamos a tener en todo el día

Una vez a unos 950 metros de altitud, iremos atravesando prados y bosques hasta que lleguemos al desvío hacia el pico Arrodantza. Atención a la cueva de Los Cristinos; sólo se ve la entrada porque su exploración está restringida a espeleólogos. Especial belleza la del bosque que comienza tras el hito Biribil. Es un precioso bosque de hayas que yo vi sin hojas (26 de enero, día frío y azul) pero con hojas debe ser algo impresionante. En el WPT “Salida de la pista principal” dejamos los senderos y pistas bien marcados que hemos ido siguiendo hasta ese momento y nos metemos en prados sin marcas. El lugar es muy amplio así que no hay posibilidad de perderse si se sigue el GPS

El desvío hacia el pico Arrodantza cruza una alambrada de espinos y yo sólo encontré un paso habilitado. Este paso tampoco es que esté muy estable, por cierto. Por eso hay que ser muy preciso a la hora de encontrar ese punto, tanto a la ida como a la vuelta. Nada más cruzar la alambrada, entramos en un bosque de hayas bastante tupido y sin ningún tipo de sendero. Hay que navegar con el GPS siguiendo las indicaciones de la cima, pero sin ser muy exacto. La mejor manera de llegar es seguir siempre hacia arriba hasta que veas que no hay nada más arriba. El camino no es complicado, pero hay que esquivar piedras, ramas y zanjas. La cima está en lo alto de una loma, en mitad del bosque. No sé si este pico tiene hito, pero yo no lo vi. A la vuelta, da igual por donde se regrese, pero siempre hacia el punto de paso de la alambrada

Esta ruta me ha parecido entretenida y muy bonita. En primavera o verano debe ser espectacular

My ascent

The car remains in a public parking lot at the entrance of the village of Larraona, in Navarra. In the village there are many "No Parking" signs, so let's respect the neighbors

This route, very entertaining and scenic, begins crossing the village until you reach the starting point of the ramp that will lead us to the plain through which the route runs. It is a climb of 1.5 km and 14% gradient on a cement track. It is the only climb we will have all day

Once at 950 meters of altitude, we will go through meadows and forests until we reach the detour to the Arrodantza peak. Attention to the cave of Los Cristinos; only the entrance is visible because its exploration is restricted to speleologists. The forest that begins after the Biribil milestone is particularly beautiful. It is a gorgeous beech forest that I saw without leaves (January 26, cold and blue day) but with leaves it must be something impressive. At the WPT "Main track exit" we leave the well-marked trails and tracks we have been following up to that point and get into unmarked meadows. The place is very wide so there is no chance of getting lost if you follow the GPS

The detour to the Arrodantza peak crosses a barbed wire fence and I only found one pass. This pass is not very stable either, by the way. That's why you must be very precise when it comes to finding this point, both on the way there and on the way back. As soon as we cross the wire fence, we enter a thick beech forest without any kind of path. You have to navigate with the GPS following the directions to the top, but without being very accurate. The best way to get there is to always keep going upwards until you see that there is nothing further up. The path is not complicated, but you have to avoid rocks, branches and ditches. The peak is at the top of a hill, in the middle of the forest. I do not know if this peak has a milestone, but I did not see it. On the way back, it doesn't matter where you return, but always towards the point where the wire fence pass is

I found this route entertaining and very beautiful. In spring or summer, it must be spectacular
