Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Torrolate, de 1016 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Se trata de un grupo de peñas calizas al pie de Toloño, en el camino de San Ginés, al Sur de la ermita del Humilladero. La denominación parece estar vinculada a un manantial cercano, iturri-ola-ate (portillo de la fuente)

Mi ascensión

Dejé el coche en el aparcamiento de visitas de la bodega Remelluri, aunque no es un buen sitio por tratarse de un lugar privado. Es mejor dejar el coche en el aparcamiento del área recreativa de San Ginés (ver WPT)

Los primeros metros son sencillos, por pista ancha y sin desnivel significativo. Se camina entre viñedos y se cruza el área recreativa de San Ginés, muy bien equipado con mesas, barbacoas, columpios y bar. El rock & roll empieza en el WPT “Desvío rojo, marcado en el suelo”. Ese desvío está marcado con una flecha roja en una piedra que hay en el suelo. Hay que abandonar la tranquila pista que seguíamos y empezar a subir. Todo lo que viene a continuación es un camino marcado con pintura roja en piedras y árboles y con trozos de plástico blanco atados a algunas ramas. Cualquier camino que no sea el marcado es complicado y peligroso. Las marcas se ven con cierta dificultad pero hay que esforzarse en seguirlas y retroceder si se cree que se ha perdido el trazado correcto. La subida inicial llega a tener pendientes del 39%, sobre un terreno rocoso y no muy consolidado. En más de una ocasión hay que echar las manos a las rocas para agarrarse. Se sube durante unos 120 metros en distancia, hasta llegar a una alambrada, que hay que cruzar. Tras la alambrada es más difícil ver las señales pero hay que buscarlas y seguirlas. Esta ruta es muy peligrosa si la visibilidad (niebla, oscuridad) no es muy buena. Tras la alambrada se sube un poco más, caminando entre rocas y arbustos altos y densos, hasta llegar a una zona más abierta. Una buena pista es intentar tener siempre referenciada la alambrada. Ya casi estamos en la cima pero no se ve porque está muy oculta entre los árboles. Si no la ves, mi consejo es subir un poco más, hasta el WPT “Vista de la cima”, para localizarla. Trepar las rocas calizas de la cima y ver el valle es un regalo

En resumen, ruta complicada por la pendiente de algunos tramos y la facilidad de perderse y verse en una situación comprometida. No es apta para todo el público, ni mucho menos

My ascent

I left the car in the visitors' parking lot of the Remelluri winery, although it is not a good place because it is a private place. It is better to leave the car in the parking lot of the recreational area of San Ginés (see WPT)

The first few meters are easy, along a wide track with no significant slope. You walk through vineyards and cross the recreational area of San Ginés, very well equipped with tables, barbecues, swings and bar. The rock & roll starts at the WPT "Red detour, marked on the floor". This detour is marked with a red arrow on a stone on the ground. We have to leave the easy track we were following and start climbing. Everything that follows is a path marked with red paint on rocks and trees and with pieces of white plastic tied to some branches. Any path other than the marked one is complicated and dangerous. The markings can be seen with some difficulty but you have to make an effort to follow them and backtrack if you think you have missed the correct route. The initial ascent has slopes of 39%, on rocky and not very consolidated terrain. On more than one occasion you have to put your hands on the rocks to hold on. It climbs for about 120 meters in distance, until you reach a wire fence, which must be crossed. Behind the fence it is more difficult to see the signs, but you should look for them and follow them. This route is very dangerous if visibility (fog, darkness) is not very good. After the wire fence you climb a little more, walking between rocks and tall, dense bushes, until you reach a more open area. A good hint is to always try to have the wire fence referenced. We are almost at the top but you can't see it because it is very hidden among the trees. If you don't see it, my advice is to climb a little higher, up to the WPT "Summit view", to locate it. Climbing the limestone rocks at the top and seeing the valley is a gift

In summary, this is a complicated route due to the steepness of some sections and the ease of getting lost and finding yourself in a compromising situation. It is not suitable for everyone, far from it
