Alava1000+ 1022 m Alto del Mojón

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Alto del Mojón, de 1022 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Las sierras de Entzia y Urbasa constituyen una única entidad orográfica donde, únicamente, una empalizada de piedras, que la atraviesa de extremo a extremo, materializa el lindero entre las mismas. En el pasado el trazo delineado por la muralla separaba los reinos enfrentados de Navarra y Castilla, aunque la construcción actual data de 1928 y tuvo como fin evitar los litigios frecuentes por los recursos que ofrece la sierra. Muy cerca de la barrera artificial de 7 Km se eleva el Mojón Alto (1022 m), el principal accidente montañoso entre Lazkueta (1123 m) y Murube (1129 m)

Mi ascensión

Esta ruta comienza una vez que se ha subido el puerto de Opakua, lo que significa que la dificultad no va a estar en el desnivel porque comenzamos a andar a 1004 metros de altitud. El coche se deja en uno de los varios aparcamientos que hay en la pista forestal

La noche anterior a la ruta había nevado así que nos encontramos con un par de preciosos centímetros de nieve

Caminamos por senda hasta el WPT “Giro derecha y salida de pista”, donde nos metemos en un bosque de hayas, abierto y sin camino visible. La primera dificultad nos la encontramos al tener que cruzar una valla de alambre de espino que no tenía paso habilitado, o yo al menos no lo encontré. Al final tuve que buscar un tramo entre dos postes alejados metro y medio y, debido a que el alambre no estaba muy tenso, pude empujar el alambre hacia abajo y pasar. Me ayudó el hecho de tener patas largas

Se continúa tranquilamente el paseo hasta llegar a la cueva de Las Armas, cueva que me costó un poco dar con ella. A partir de la cueva comienza una zona laberíntica en la que es necesario estudiar cada paso. Son rocas calizas entre las que hay zanjas de metro y medio de profundidad. Caminar por las zanjas no es fácil; hay que ir por arriba, dando algún salto que otro. Si saltas, asegúrate de que no tienes algún pie enganchado en alguna zarza y te caigas de bruces (estuvo a punto de pasarme a mí). Tras sortear este laberinto, se llega a lo que debe ser la cima. Encontré un montón de piedras entre unos árboles e interpreté que eso era la cima

La salida desde la cima te lleva a otro laberinto, aunque más corto que el anterior. Y poco más, los dos últimos kilómetros son por asfalto, lo que desluce el final de la marcha

La ruta, en general, tiene la dificultad de los laberintos, por eso la califico de moderada. En los laberintos, sigue una orientación general pero busca el mejor paso, el más cómodo, ya sea saltando por encima de las piedras o bajando a las zanjas

The Entzia and Urbasa mountain ranges form a single orographic entity where only a stone perimeter wall, which crosses from one end to the other, marks the boundary between them. In the past, the line drawn by the wall separated the opposing kingdoms of Navarre and Castile, although the current construction is dated 1928 and its purpose was to avoid the frequent disputes over the resources offered by the mountain range. Very close to the 7 km artificial barrier rises the Mojón Alto (1022 m), the main mountainous feature between Lazkueta (1123 m) and Murube (1129 m)

My ascent

This route begins once the Opakua pass has been driven up, which means that the difficulty is not going to be in the slope because we start walking at 1004 meters of altitude. The car is left in one of the several parking lots along the forest track

The night before the walk it had snowed so we found a couple of precious centimeters of snow

We walk along the path until the WPT "Right turn and track exit", where we get into a beech forest, open and without visible path. The first difficulty we encountered was having to cross a barbed wire fence that had no passage available, or at least I did not find it. Finally I had to look for a stretch between two poles that were a meter and a half apart and, because the wire was not very tight, I was able to push the wire down and pass. It helped that I have long legs

The walk continues smoothly until you reach the cave of Las Armas, a cave that took me a while to find. From the cave a labyrinthine area begins in which it is necessary to carefully examine each step. They are limestone rocks between which there are ditches of meter and a half deep. Walking through the ditches is not easy; you have to go over the top, taking some occasional jumps. If you jump, make sure you don't get your foot caught in a bramble and fall flat on your face (this almost happened to me). After navigating this maze, you reach what must be the top. I found a pile of stones between some trees and interpreted that as the summit

The exit from the top takes you to another labyrinth, although shorter than the previous one. And not much else, the last two kilometers are on asphalt, which spoils the end of the hike

The route, in general, has the difficulty of the labyrinths, so I rate it as moderate. In the labyrinths, follow a general orientation but look for the best way, the most comfortable, either by jumping over the stones or going down into the ditches
