Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Santa Ana, de 1039 metros

Esta cumbre muestra un aspecto cónico vista desde la aldea de Ribera (776 m), despoblada e inmersa en pleno valle de Valderejo (Parque Natural). Constituye la última elevación de la sierra Artzena, que en este punto es rota por el bonito desfiladero del río Purón, jalonado por cascadas y saltos de agua. La ascensión a este monte se puede complementar con la visita al desfiladero

El nombre de esta montaña tiene su origen en la ermita que coronaba la elevación. Aún hoy es posible observar restos de la misma a algunos metros de la cumbre, que por otro lado ha tenido la función de castro en el pasado

Mi ascensión

Preciosa ruta y preciosa ascension, sin duda

Comenzamos en el pueblo de Villafría de San Zadornil, en el parking que hay junto al área de barbacoas. Desde allí comienza una tranquila bajada hasta el pueblo abandonado de Ribera, donde se puede visitar la iglesia de San Esteban. Continuamos por un gran prado que hay a la salida de Ribera, hasta llegar a un bosque que nos conduce al río Purón, su desfiladero y su cascada. Esta zona del parque es muy famosa y los fines de semana está muy masificada

Hasta ahora todo ha sido bajar porque hemos salido desde 900 metros de altitud. Al llegar al WPT “Desvío a Santa Ana” estamos a 661 metros de altura. Todo este descenso hay que recuperarlo en los siguientes 1.78 km hasta llegar a la cima. La pendiente media es de 22% pero los últimos 240 metros tienen una pendiente del 37%. Toda esta subida requiere esfuerzo, sobre todo el acceso final, pero es un camino bonito y sombreado, al abrigo de árboles y de la propia pared rocosa. Los bastones son muy, muy recomendables

La cima ofrece unas vistas espectaculares y tiene un pequeño buzón cimero. Es un lugar maravilloso para descansar mientras se disfruta del paisaje del Parque Natural de Valderejo

Tras descender y llegar de nuevo al collado, tomar la dirección de “Villafría” para regresar por una tranquila senda sin desnivel

Los distintos caminos, sendas y desvíos son muy visibles y fáciles de seguir. El útimo tramo de acceso a la cima obliga en alguna ocasion a trepar por rocas pero no tiene peligro ni complejidad. Este tramo final sí es estrecho y hay que ir esquivando los árboles

El resumen de esta ruta lo tengo claro: me ha encantado porque mezcla naturaleza y una buena cantidad de esfuerzo físico

This summit shows a conical aspect when seen from the village of Ribera (776 m), uninhabited and immersed in the valley of Valderejo (Natural Park). It is the last elevation of the Artzena mountain range, which at this point is broken by the beautiful gorge of the Purón river, punctuated by cascades and waterfalls. The ascent to this mountain can be combined with a visit to the gorge

The name of this mountain has its origin in the hermitage that crowned the elevation. Still today it is possible to observe the remains to some meters from the summit, which on the other hand has had the function of castrum in the past

My ascent

Wonderful trail and beautiful ascent, no doubt

We start in the village of Villafría de San Zadornil, in the parking lot next to the barbecue area. From there, a quiet descent begins to the abandoned village of Ribera, where you can visit the church of San Esteban. We continue through a large meadow at the exit of Ribera, until we reach a forest that leads us to the Purón River, its gorge and waterfall. This area of the park is very famous and on weekends it is very crowded

So far it has been all downhill because we have left from 900 meters altitude. When we reach the WPT "Desvío a Santa Ana" we are at 661 meters above sea level. All this descent has to be recovered in the following 1.78 km to reach the peak. The average gradient is 22% but the last 240 meters have a gradient of 37%. All this climb requires effort, especially the final access, but it is a nice and shady trail, sheltered by trees and the rock face itself. Poles are highly, highly recommended

The summit offers spectacular views and has a small summit letterbox. It is a wonderful place to rest while enjoying the scenery of the Valderejo Natural Park

After descending and arriving back to the mountain pass, take the direction of "Villafría" to return by a quiet path without slope

The different trails, paths and detours are very visible and easy to follow. The last stretch of access to the summit sometimes requires climbing over rocks but it is not dangerous or complex. This final stretch is narrow and you have to avoid the trees

The summary of this trail is clear: I loved it because it mixes nature and a good amount of physical effort
