Alava1000+ 1041 m Semendia

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Semendia, de 1041 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

La cumbre de Semendia (1042 m) forma parte geográfica de la sierra de Toloño/Cantabria, si bien no alcanza ni la altitud ni la fisonomía de los agrestes picos que caracterizan a este macizo montañoso. Se trata de una loma muy bien protegida por la vegetación, fundamentalmente espeso boj, que impide la panorámica en cualquier dirección. Al Norte discurre la carretera que une Pipaon (839 m) con Lagran (756 m), que alcanza un pequeño puerto: El Alto de Tres Cruces (870 m). Este collado separa Semendia (1042 m) del monte Jaunden (1035 m), cubierto, asimismo, de idénticas espesuras

Como se ha indicado se halla bastante cerrada por la vegetación. El acceso se realiza desde el portillo de Semendia (930 m) al que se llega desde desde Pipaon (859 m) o Lagran (756 m)

Mi ascensión

No me ha gustado la ruta y la cumbre tampoco es nada espectacular. La mitad de la ruta, aproximadamente, discurre por pistas de asfalto y cemento, sin ningún interés. Son caminos muy abiertos y el sol da de pleno. Hay un punto de visita, las llamadas Tres Cruces, que tampoco aportan mucho. Son tres cruces hechas con travesaños de antigua vía de tren y un altar pero no hay ninguna explicación de lo que es y no aportan demasiado. La cima, por su parte, no tiene visibilidad debido a la vegetación así que tampoco tiene interés paisajístico

Pero también hay cosas positivas. Es entretenido buscar el buzón cimero porque se halla escondido en los muchos caminitos y recovecos que hay en la cima. Tras entrar en el bosque (robles, hayas y boj), en el WPT “Entrada al bosque”, el camino se hace más interesante porque se camina entre árboles, por una pista muy ancha y sencilla

En el camino desde las Tres Cruces hacia la cima hay un lugar (WPT “A través de los árboles”) en donde no se ve la senda. Hay que pasar entre el boj e inmediatamente se ve el camino. En esta zona hay muchos puestos de caza y hay muchos caminos que se cruzan unos con otros

En el WPT “Collado” hay que buscar un hito de piedras, a la derecha, que marca la estrecha senda que lleva a la cima. Este tramo es el más montañero de toda la ruta

La bajada es muy pedregosa y se hace siguiendo los puntos rojos en el suelo, hasta el WPT “Pista de regreso”

El coche se deja aparcado en Lagrán pero si se quiere ahorrar tiempo, se puede dejar en el monumento de las Tres Cruces y hacer la subida al monte Semendia desde allí, ida y vuelta

The summit of Semendia (1042 m) is a geographical part of the Toloño/Cantabria mountain range, although it does not reach the altitude or the physiognomy of the rugged peaks that characterize this mountain massif. It is a hill very well protected by the vegetation, mainly thick boxwood, which prevents the panoramic view in any direction. To the north runs the road linking Pipaon (839 m) with Lagran (756 m), which reaches a small pass: El Alto de Tres Cruces (870 m). This pass separates Semendia (1042 m) from Mount Jaunden (1035 m), which is also covered in the same thicket

As has been indicated it is quite closed by the vegetation. Access is from the Semendia pass (930 m) which can be reached from Pipaon (859 m) or Lagran (756 m)

My ascent

I didn't like the trail and the summit is nothing spectacular either. The trail runs for about half of the route on asphalt and cement tracks, without any interest. They are very open tracks and the sun strikes full force. There is a point of visit, the so-called Tres Cruces (Three Crosses), which do not have much to offer. They are three crosses made with crossbeams of old railroad tracks and an altar but there is no explanation of what it is and do not make much sense. The summit, on the other hand, has no visibility due to the vegetation, so it is of no scenic interest either

But there are also positive things. It is entertaining to look for the summit letterbox because it is hidden in the many paths and nooks and crannies on the summit. After entering the forest (oaks, beeches and boxwoods), at the WPT "Entrance to forest", the trail becomes more interesting because you walk through the trees, on a very wide and easy trail

On the trail from the Tres Cruces to the summit there is a place (WPT "Through the trees") where you can't see the path. You have to go through the boxwood and immediately you see the trail. In this area there are many hunting posts and there are many trails that cross each other

At the WPT "Mountain pass" look for a stone marker on the right that marks the narrow path that leads to the summit. This section is the most mountainous of the whole trail

The descent is very rocky and is done following the red dots on the ground, until the WPT "Return track"

The car is left parked in Lagrán but if you want to save time, you can leave it at the monument of the Three Crosses and make the ascent to Semendia mountain from there, round trip
