Alava1000+ 1042 m Lete

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Lete, de 1042 metros

Mi ascensión

Entretenida y bonita ruta desde Eguileta, donde no hay un aparcamiento público como tal

No lo parece a priori pero esta ruta discurre en un 80-85 % por bosque (hayedo y pinar), haciendo muy agradable caminar, aunque hay zonas en las que no está muy limpio el camino. Este bosque es muy oscuro en algunas zonas, debido a la densidad de hojas en las copas de los árboles. No tiene grandes pendientes pero sí un par de desvíos no marcados. Estos dos desvíos aparecen en mi ruta como “Desvío derecha” y “Desvío izquierda”. En el primero hay que abandonar la senda principal y meterse por la ladera, hacia arriba. En el segundo, hay que salir por la izquierda, buscando el paso del arroyo Erentxu. Justo después de cruzar el estrecho arroyo, hay que orientarse por la línea de alta tensión, por una zona con muchos helechos, difícil de caminar. Mejor buscar algún otro paso que nos lleve en dirección Noroeste y no entrar en los helechos

Otro punto en el que hay que buscar un paso es el marcado como “Busca paso de alambrada”. Ahí, simplemente hay que buscar el mejor lugar para cruzar la alambrada

Pero quitando estas precauciones, el camino es entretenido y no exige esfuerzo ni muchas dotes de orientación

Hay un momento en el que se cruza la carretera que lleva al Centro de Entrenamiento de la Policía Autónoma vasca y no es extraño escuchar disparos provenientes de los campos de tiro. Tras cruzar esta carretera y un bosque que viene después, llegamos ya a la cota 960 m, a una campa donde nos encontramos de cara con la enorme proa que constituye el monte Lete. Nos queda un desnivel de 70 metros, con un 26 % de pendiente, para llegar a la humilde piedra que marca la cima

Como resumen, bonita ruta que llama la atención por la cantidad de bosque que se recorre

My ascent

Entertaining and beautiful trail from Eguileta, where there is no public parking as such

It does not seem so at first glance but this trail runs 80-85 % through forest (beech and pine forest), making it very pleasant to walk, although there are areas where the trail is not very clean. This forest is very dark in some zones, due to the density of leaves in the treetops. It does not have steep slopes but it does have a couple of unmarked detours. These two detours appear on my route as "Detour right" and "Detour left". In the first one, you have to leave the main path and go up the slope. In the second one, you have to exit to the left, looking for the Erentxu creek crossing. Just after crossing the narrow stream, you have to find your orientation following the high tension line, through an area with a lot of ferns, difficult to walk. It is better to look for another pass that takes us in a northwesterly direction and not enter the ferns

Another point where you have to look for a pass is the one marked as "Look for fence pass". There, you simply have to look for the best place to cross the wire fence

But, apart from these precautions, the trail is entertaining and does not require a lot of effort or orientation skills

There is a moment when you cross the road that leads to the Basque Autonomous Police Training Center and it is not uncommon to hear gunshots coming from the shooting ranges. After crossing this road and a forest that comes after, we arrive at 960 m elevation, to a plateau where we find ourselves facing the huge prow that is the Lete mountain. We have left a height difference of 70 meters, with a 26% slope, to reach the humble stone that marks the summit

In summary, a nice trail that draws attention by the amount of forest that is traversed
