Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Basasakan, de 1046 metros

Monte perteneciente a la sierra de Iturrieta sin apenas prominencia, que destaca por ser el espolón más sobresaliente de dicha sierra

Mi ascensión

Esta sencilla ruta comienza tras dejar el coche en el pequeño pueblo de Alaiza. No hay aparcamiento público así que hay que aparcar sin molestar a los vecinos

Comenzamos caminando por una pista ancha de tierra, entre campos de cultivo, hasta que llegamos al bosque. El bosque, helechos, hayas y robles, nos acompañará hasta casi la cima, hasta el WPT “Puerto de Luzkando”. La senda es muy fácil de seguir aunque hay tramos en los que no está muy limpia. No hay grandes pendientes; si acaso, algún repecho que requiere un poco de esfuerzo



Poco antes de llegar al puerto de Luzkando, antesala de la cima, se pasa por un roquedo, una cavidad abierta en una pared de piedra



La cima es un promontorio sin mucha vegetación, tras una puerta metálica. No hay ningún hito. Hay vistas a Vitoria y a Salvatierra. Se escucha el rumor de la autovía A-1





En resumen, sin ser una gran ruta ni una gran cima, es un paseo agradable por el bosque

My ascent

The trail starts after leaving the car in the small village of Alaiza. There is no public parking so you have to park without disturbing the neighbors

We start walking along a wide dirt trail, between crop fields, until we reach the forest. The forest, ferns, beeches and oaks, will accompany us almost to the top, to the WPT "Luzkando pass". The path is very easy to follow although there are stretches where it is not very clean. There are no steep slopes; if anything, some steep sections that require a little effort



Shortly before reaching the Luzkando pass, anteroom to the summit, we pass through a rocky area, an open cavity in a stone wall



The summit is a promontory without much vegetation, behind a metal gate. There is no landmark. There are views of Vitoria and Salvatierra. The rumble of the A-1 highway can be heard





In summary, without being a great trail or a great summit, it is a pleasant walk in the woods
