Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Marabileta SW, de 1052 metros

Cumbre menor de los Montes de Iturrieta. Según parece, no cuenta con denominación propia por lo que se le ha asignado el topónimo Marabileta, que además de la cumbre de dicho nombre (1089 m), coronada por un repetidor, en los mapas aparece también designando el entorno

Mi ascensión

Esta ruta comienza en el pueblo de Jáuregui, donde se puede dejar el coche en un aparcamiento público. Tras atravesar el pueblo, los primeros metros son por carretera, hasta que salimos de ella por la derecha. Al principio se camina en plano, pero la ruta va ganando pendiente mientras se camina por una senda muy sencilla y visible



Hay que estar muy atento porque, llegado un momento, hay que abandonar la comodidad de nuestra senda y meternos hacia el hayedo a la derecha. No hay un punto exacto porque no hay senda en el hayedo. Tan sólo hay que buscar un buen lugar para cruzar el riachuelo y las zarzas cercanas a él, al estilo jabalí. Una vez en el hayedo, es recomendable seguir el GPS porque no se distingue ningún camino. El camino por el hayedo no es difícil, pero requiere un poco de habilidad. El bosque no es denso y se progresa bien. Es un precioso hayedo con algunos ejemplares espectaculares



En un momento dado nos encontraremos con una pista bien marcada que tendremos que seguir hacia arriba hasta llegar a una carretera, el puerto de Ullíbarri. El tráfico de camiones es intenso porque van a la cercana cantera de Laminoria. De hecho, el ruido de este tráfico es algo que se escucha en distintos lugares de la ruta

Tras cruzar la carretera seguimos ascendiendo por un encinar hasta el puerto de Guereñu y, desde allí, hasta la cima final por un bosque de hayas. La cima no tiene ningún hito diferenciado. Sólo hay un mojón que marca la divisoria de municipios. Desde arriba sólo hay vista hacia el Sur porque hacia el Norte hay un bosque. También es muy fácil ver grandes aves sobrevolando la cima. El monte Marabileta se ve cercano y muy distinguible por su gran antena



El descenso es, de lejos, lo mejor del día. Se desciende a lo largo de diferentes bosques (pinos primero y hayas después), con un suave desnivel. Esta parte de la ruta es muy para disfrutar, muy tranquila



En resumen, es un camino fácil de seguir, salvo el hayedo del comienzo. Hay alguna cuesta exigente, como la de después del puerto de Guereñu. Sin ser una gran ascensión ni una gran cima, el entorno es muy bonito porque hay mucha parte de camino por bosques: encinas, mucho pino y hayas

My ascent

This route begins in the village of Jáuregui, where you can leave your car in a public parking lot. After crossing the village, the first few meters are along the road, until we leave it on the right. At first you walk on level ground, but the route becomes steeper as you walk along a very simple and visible path



You have to be very attentive because, at one point, you have to leave the comfort of our path and go into the beech forest on the right. There is no exact point because there is no path in the beech forest. You just have to look for a good place to cross the stream and the brambles near it, wild boar style. Once in the beech forest, it is advisable to follow the GPS because you cannot distinguish any path. The path through the beech forest is not difficult, but requires some skill. The forest is not dense and progress is good. It is a beautiful beech forest with some spectacular specimens



At a given moment we will find a well marked track that we will have to follow upwards until we reach a road, the Ullíbarri pass. The truck traffic is intense because they go to the nearby quarry of Laminoria. In fact, the noise of this traffic is something that can be heard in different parts of the route

After crossing the road we continue ascending through a holm oak forest to the Guereñu pass and, from there, to the final summit through a beech forest. The summit does not have any differentiated landmark. There is only a cairn that marks the division of municipalities. From the top there is only a view to the south because to the north there is a forest. It is also very easy to see large birds flying over the summit. Mount Marabileta is seen nearby and very distinguishable by its large antenna



The descent is, by far, the highlight of the day. It descends along different forests (pine first and beech later), with a gentle slope. This part of the route is very enjoyable, very quiet



In short, it is an easy trail to follow, except for the beech forest at the beginning. There are some demanding slopes, like the one after the Guereñu pass. Without being a great ascent or a great summit, the environment is very nice because there is much of the way through forests: oaks, lots of pine and beech
