Mi ascensión
Este curioso monte tiene la particularidad de que se alcanza la cima descendiendo, en vez de subiendo
La marcha se inicia en el pueblo de Urabain, donde no hay aparcamiento público. Así pues, aparca el coche donde no moleste a los vecinos
La ruta consiste en subir por la ladera, desde los 620 metros de altitud a los que se encuentra Urabain, hasta alcanzar la plataforma superior a unos 1100 metros de altitud. La subida es siempre a través de bosque, siguiendo la pista siempre visible. La pista puede ser más o menos ancha pero no tiene problemas de orientación. En general no es una subida fatigosa aunque tiene alguna zona de más el 20 % de pendiente. Aun así, es un ascenso muy atractivo. En algunos tramos no está especialmente limpia pero no presenta ninguna complicación. Nos rodean hayas y robles
Al llegar a la plataforma hay que girar en dirección Oeste, siguiendo el cortado, y caminar unos 850 metros hasta encontrar el desvío que baja a la cima. En ese punto se desciende hasta entrar en un precioso hayedo que nos conduce hasta la cima
La cima es un pequeño promontorio con hierba que se yergue sobre la ladera. No existe hito alguno, tan sólo un par de piedras. La vista sobre la Sakana es absoluta, aunque la autovía Vitoria-Pamplona sea la protagonista. Hacia el Sur, la vista es hacia terreno más elevado, hacia el borde de la plataforma. Se hace extraño que desde una cima, se vea terreno más alto tan próximo
En la plataforma se pueden visitar diferentes menhires existentes. He marcado un par de ellos con sus WPTs
La bajada de vuelta a Urabain es por el mismo camino
El resumen es que es una caminata interesante y no demasiado exigente ni complicada, muy bonita por el bosque que se atraviesa
Nota: las indicaciones de los desvíos que se facilitan en el itinerario corresponden a la subida. Es decir, si el WPT marca “Izquierda”, es un desvío a la izquierda al subir, pero a la derecha al bajar

My ascent
This peculiar mountain has the particularity that the summit is reached by descending, instead of ascending
The hike starts in the village of Urabain, where there is no public parking. So, park the car where it does not disturb the neighbors
The route consists of climbing up the hillside, from the 620 meters altitude at which Urabain is located, to reach the upper platform at about 1100 meters altitude. The ascent is always through forest, following the track that is always visible. The track can be more or less wide but has no orientation problems. In general it is not a tiring ascent although it has some parts of more than 20 % of incline. Even so, it is a very attractive ascent. In some sections it is not especially clean but it does not present any complication. We are surrounded by beech and oak trees
When arriving at the platform it is necessary to turn in direction West, following the cut, and to walk about 850 meters until finding the deviation that descends to the summit. At this point we descend to enter a beautiful beech forest that leads us to the top
The summit is a small grassy promontory that rises above the hillside. There is no landmark, just a couple of stones. The view over the Sakana is absolute, although the Vitoria-Pamplona highway is the protagonist. To the South, the view is towards higher ground, towards the edge of the platform. It is strange that from a summit, you can see higher ground so close
On the platform you can visit different existing menhirs. I have marked a couple of them with their WPTs
The descent back to Urabain is by the same path.
The summary is that it is an interesting hike and not too demanding or complicated, very nice because of the forest that is crossed
