Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Gonga, de 1062 metros
Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):
Modestísima cumbre de macizo de Gorbeia, de ascenso tan anecdótico como su curioso nombre. Forma parte de un cordal que desde Gorbeia (1481 m) enlaza con la loma de Arroriano (1343 m) y desciende a las campas de Sekelekuarre (1170 m) para bajar a un pequeño collado (1040 m), desde el cual la cumbre se sube sin apenas desnivel. Queda al Este el barranco del río Zubialde (llamado Errekasiku) y los Embalses de Gorbeia (686 m), barranco en el que se hallan las famosas cuevas de Mairuelegorreta (930 m), de más de 15 Km de longitud
Las laderas de este monte cobijan la famosa cueva de Mairuelegorreta que con sus más de 12 Km de longitud es la mayor del macizo de Gorbeia. Las primeras exploraciones se inician en el año 1.900. El primer croquis de esta cavidad se debe a Luis Heintz (1910)
En 1884 se inauguró el suministro de agua a Vitoria-Gasteiz, trayendo el agua de la surgencia de Sale el Agua o Laminatxe hasta un depósito de aguas construido en la parte más alta de la ciudad, en El Campillo, junto al palacio de Montehermoso. En 1977 los trabajos de la cantera de Gorbeia dejan al descubierto la cueva de Peña Gingia, prolongación de aquella surgencia. Esta cueva posee un desarrollo de unos 6 Km
Mi ascensión
Esta ruta me ha parecido que apenas tiene interés montañero. El ascenso se realiza por una pista ancha y descubierta en su mayor parte, sin ninguna complicación ni atractivo paisajístico. La bajada es un poco más atrayente porque se hace sin seguir apenas ninguna senda marcada, entre arbustos y a través de un bosque donde sólo hay que orientarse mínimamente con el GPS para no separarse mucho del trazado. Al llegar al WPT “Pista de descenso” ya sólo hay que seguir el camino hasta el parking
La cima está un poco escondida. Hay un cartel que marca el punto más alto y hay que buscarlo un poco entre los arbustos. Apenas hay vistas desde la cima
El coche se deja en un aparcamiento pequeño que hay a las afueras del pueblo de Murua. Este aparcamiento posiblemente está muy ocupado los fines de semana porque este es uno de los lugares habituales para salir al Gorbea

Modest summit of the Gorbeia massif, as anecdotal as its curious name. It is part of a range that from Gorbeia (1481 m) connects with the Arroriano hill (1343 m) and descends to the fields of Sekelekuarre (1170 m) to descend to a small col (1040 m), from which the summit is climbed with hardly any slope. To the east is the Zubialde river ravine (called Errekasiku) and the Gorbeia reservoirs (686 m), a ravine where the famous Mairuelegorreta caves (930 m) are located, more than 15 km long
The slopes of this mountain are home to the famous Mairuelegorreta cave, which is the largest cave in the Gorbeia massif with a length of more than 12 km. The first explorations began in 1900. The first sketch of this cavity is due to Luis Heintz (1910)
In 1884 the water supply to Vitoria-Gasteiz was inaugurated, bringing water from the Sale el Agua or Laminatxe spring to a water reservoir built in the highest part of the city, in El Campillo, next to the palace of Montehermoso. In 1977, work on the Gorbeia quarry uncovered the Peña Gingia cave, an extension of that spring. This cave has a development of about 6 km
My ascent
This route seems to me to be of little interest for mountaineers. The ascent is done on a wide and mostly exposed track, without any complications or scenic attraction. The descent is a little more attractive because it is done without following any marked path, between bushes and through a forest where you only have to orient yourself minimally with the GPS to not deviate too much from the track. When you reach the WPT "Descending track" you just have to follow the path to the parking lot
The summit is a bit hidden. There is a sign marking the highest point and you have to look for it a bit in the bushes. There are hardly any views from the top
The car is left in a small parking lot just outside the village of Murua. This parking lot is possibly very busy on weekends because this is one of the usual places to go out to the Gorbea
