Alava1000+ 1072 m Nabarreta Oriental

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Nabarreta Oriental, de 1072 metros

En el interior del impresionante hayedo de Opakua encontramos una serie de cotas, siendo la principal Lazkueta con 1123 metros. Al este de esta cima se haya la cima de Nabarreta, que con sus 1085 metros, destaca levemente entre el denso arbolado. Su visita nos brindará un paseo por los hayedos, si bien la vertiente este de Nabarreta Oriental se encuentra arrasada por el tornado que asoló Opakua en Julio de 2018.

Mi ascensión

Nada más llegar a la parte superior del puerto de Opakua, subiendo desde el pueblo del mismo nombre, sale una pista asfaltada que va hacia el Este. Esta pista conduce a diferentes aparcamientos de la plataforma superior de este puerto. Uno de ellos es el parking de Igorita, que es el lugar elegido para dejar el coche. Teniendo en cuenta que este aparcamiento ya tiene una cota de 967 m, ascender al Nabarreta Oriental de 1072 m no tiene absolutamente ninguna dificultad así que voy a complementar la ruta con un paseo por el parque megalítico de Legaire

Tras dejar el coche, caminamos por un prado abierto hasta alcanzar una senda que nos lleva a otro aparcamiento, el de Legaire. Aquí comienza el parque megalítico y hay paneles informativos



Los primeros menhires con los que nos encontramos son una pareja (Este, I y II). Poco después hay otro menhir junto a un dolmen, más al Norte. El tercero monumento prehistórico que visitamos en la planicie es el de mayor tamaño, el menhir Akarte. Tras esta vuelta, nos dirigimos ya hacia la cima, hacia el Sur



Todavía antes de iniciar la corta subida, nos acercamos a un grupo de cabañas bastante arregladas que hay en el plano. Planicie que, por cierto, tiene un importante número de cabezas de ganado vacuno y equino pastando tranquilamente. Junto a las cabañas están los restos de otro dolmen, el del Sur



Esta zona de planicie está cruzada por diferentes riachuelos intermitentes, que pueden estar secos o llevar bastante agua. En este segundo caso hay que buscar un buen sito para vadearlos. Más adelante, el acceso a la cima se realiza por el interior de un bosque en el que no hay una senda visible. Es fácil orientarse siguiendo el GPS pero hay que tener cuidado porque el suelo tiene ramas con las que podemos tropezar. Es fácil ver vida silvestre (ciervos y jabalíes)

La cima no tiene más que unas pocas piedras apiladas y está en medio de un hayedo algo más cerrado que antes. Hay que apartar ramas para poder pasar, al tiempo que se va buscando el hito cimero. La pendiente no es apenas significativa



La salida de la cima vuelve a ser de bosque abierto, sin complicación salvo algún desnivel grande que requiere buscar el mejor camino para descenderlo pero es sencillo. Más adelante llegamos a una alambrada que no hay que cruzar sino seguirla por la derecha. El cruce de dicha alambrada se hace unos metros más adelante. Tras este cruce de alambrada ya sólo queda caminar para volver al coche

En resumidas cuentas, ruta sencillísima salvo por algunas zonas de hayedo cerrado que requiere un poco de cuidado. Se visita también el parque megalítico de Legaire

Inside the impressive Opakua beech forest there are a series of peaks, the main one being Lazkueta at 1123 metres. To the east of this peak is the peak of Nabarreta, which, at 1085 metres, stands out slightly among the dense woodland. A visit to it will give us a walk through the beech forests, although the eastern slope of East Nabarreta was devastated by the tornado that devastated Opakua in July 2018

My ascent

As soon as you reach the top of the Opakua pass, going up from the village of the same name, there is an asphalted track that heads east. This track leads to different car parks on the upper platform of this pass. One of them is the Igorita car park, which is the place chosen to leave the car. Bearing in mind that this car park is already at an altitude of 967 m, ascending the East Nabarreta at 1072 m is not at all difficult, so I am going to complement the route with a walk through the megalithic park of Legaire

After leaving the car, we walk through an open meadow until we reach a path that takes us to another car park, the Legaire car park. This is the beginning of the megalithic park and there are information panels



The first menhirs we come across are a pair (East, I and II). Shortly after there is another menhir next to a dolmen, further north. The third prehistoric monument we visit on the plain is the largest, the Akarte menhir. After this tour, we head south towards the summit



Still before starting the short ascent, we approach a group of well-kept huts on the plain. The plain, by the way, has a large number of cattle and horses grazing peacefully. Next to the huts are the remains of another dolmen, the South dolmen



This flat area is crossed by several intermittent streams, which may be dry or carry a lot of water. In the latter case, it is necessary to find a good place to ford them. Further on, access to the summit is through the interior of a forest where there is no visible path. It is easy to find your way by following the GPS but you have to be careful because the ground has branches that you can trip over. It is easy to see wildlife (deer and wild boar)

The summit has only a few stones piled up and is in the middle of a beech forest that is somewhat more enclosed than before. It is necessary to move branches aside to be able to pass, at the same time as you look for the summit milestone. The slope is hardly significant



The descent from the summit is once again in open forest, without complication except for some steep slopes that require you to look for the best way down, but it is simple. Further on we reach a wire fence that we do not have to cross but follow it to the right. Cross the fence a few metres further on. After this fence crossing, the only thing left to do is to walk back to the car

All in all, a very easy route except for some areas of closed beech forest that require a bit of care. We also visit the megalithic park of Legaire
