Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Nabarreta, de 1079 metros

Escondida cumbre en el extenso hayedo de Opakua que merece la pena visitar por su espectacular cima en el roquedo que emerge en el bosque muy cerca de la cima de Lazkueta

Mi ascensión

Esta ruta se inicia en el pueblo de Urabain. Este pequeño pueblo no dispone de aparcamiento así que hay que dejar el coche en algún sitio que no moleste a los vecinos

Tras pasar la iglesia, entramos en una pista que enseguida nos mete en el hayedo y por el que ascenderemos hasta la plataforma superior, a unos 1050 metros. El ascenso no es muy empinado y la senda casi siempre es visible. Puede haber algún tramo que no esté demasiado limpio pero es un ascenso muy bonito, por las hayas y los distintos pasos entre rocas. Los últimos metros antes de la plataforma son los que más pendiente tienen, sin sobrepasar el 30%

Al llegar a la plataforma, al raso Legaire, todo el panorama cambia porque estamos en una enorme planicie despejada, con ganado pastando. Caminamos por el plano, visitando algunos dólmenes y menhires convenientemente señalizados hacia el aparcamiento Legaire. Este aparcamiento es accesible con coche desde el puerto de Opakua. Tras seguir durante 1.7 km por una ancha pista de tierra, nos salimos de la pista principal por la derecha, en el parking Igorita Txipi, para dirigirnos hacia la cima

El acceso a la cima se realiza a través de un enorme hayedo. Aun siendo un hayedo no muy tupido, hay varias zonas en las que la maleza y las zarzas dificultan significativamente la marcha. En esta zona no hay senda visible así que lo mejor es ir buscando zonas de hayedo cubiertas de hojas y evitar la maleza. Aquí la pendiente es baja, sobre el 15%

Según nos acercamos a la cima, el bosque se cierra y se va volviendo más místico y mágico. La cima está compuesta de varias rocas enormes, cubiertas de musgo. Parece el hábitat de elfos y druidas. No es fácil saber cuál es la roca más alta así que la cima, que no está marcada de ninguna forma, se puede considerar este grupo de rocas



El descenso es por la misma ruta, a la inversa. En conjunto queda una bonita ruta, sin complicaciones de pendiente, orientación o suelo. Sólo la zona de zarzas y maleza antes de la cima es algo molesta

Nota: esta ruta, o parte de ella, es de ida y vuelta. Las indicaciones de los desvíos que se facilitan en el itinerario corresponden a la subida. Es decir, si el WPT marca “Izquierda”, es un desvío a la izquierda al subir, pero a la derecha al bajar

My ascent

This route starts in the village of Urabain. This small village has no parking so you have to leave the car somewhere that does not disturb the neighbors

After passing the church, we enter a track that immediately takes us into the beech forest and through which we will ascend to the upper platform, at about 1050 meters. The ascent is not very steep and the path is almost always visible. There may be some sections that are not too clean but it is a very nice ascent, through the beeches and the various passages between rocks. The last meters before the platform are the steepest, without exceeding 30%

When we reach the platform, at Legaire flat, the whole panorama changes because we are in a huge clear plain, with cattle grazing. We walk along the trail, visiting some dolmens and menhirs conveniently signposted towards the Legaire parking lot. This parking is accessible by car from the pass of Opakua. After continuing for 1.7 km along a wide dirt track, we leave the main trail to the right, in the parking Igorita Txipi, to head towards the summit

The access to the summit is through a huge beech forest. Although it is not a very dense forest, there are several areas where the undergrowth and brambles significantly hinder the walk. In this area there is no visible path so it is best to look for areas of forest covered with leaves and avoid the undergrowth. Here the slope is low, about 15%

As we approach the summit, the forest closes in and becomes more mystical and magical. The summit is composed of several huge rocks, covered with moss. It looks like the habitat of elves and druids. It is not easy to know which is the highest rock so the top, which is not marked in any way, can be considered as this group of rocks



The descent is by the same route, in the inverse. All in all it remains a nice route, with no complications of slope, orientation or terrain. Only the area of brambles and undergrowth before the summit is somewhat annoying

Note: this route, or part of it, is a round trip. The indications of the detours provided in the itinerary correspond to the ascent. That is to say, if the WPT marks "Left", it is a detour to the left on the way up, but to the right on the way down
