Alava1000+ 1081 m Burgamendi

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Burgamendi, de 1081 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Cumbre de la sierra de Elgea entre los pasos de Usakotxena o Usabakotxena (993 m), al Oeste, y San Juan (1041 m), al Este. Al Oeste, el paso de Usakotxena queda vigilado por la pequeña cima de Mirubixkar (1048 m)
El paso de Usakotxena es el más bajo de los que encontramos en esta parte de la sierra de Elgea. De aquí hacia el Este los demás collados son más elevados. Esto hace que este puerto fuese una ruta concurrida en la comunicación de Oñati con la Llanada Alavesa (Arabako Lautada). Desde Larrea (569 m) o Araotz (440 m) podemos llegar al paso de Usakotxena y tomar la cresta hacia el Este para alcanzar las sucesivas lomas de Mirubixkar (1048 m), Burgamendi (1098 m), Sekillaga (1154 m) y Artia-Gaboño (1175 m)

Mi ascensión

Esta ruta comienza tras pasar el pueblo de Larrea. La zona de aparcamiento es amplia, con cabida para unos 12 o 14 vehículos

El ascenso a esta cima no es nada interesante. La ruta sube por una pista de grava ancha, habilitada para los numerosos 4x4 que suben al parque eólico. El ascenso es aburrido y nada atractivo. Una vez que se alcanza la cima, se pasa por una cima menor (Mirubizkar, 1048 m) antes de llegar al hito cimero del monte Burgamendi. Un vértice geodésico y un pequeño hito marcan el lugar. El viento sopla fuerte en esta cresta y el ruido de los aerogeneradores es bastante molesto





Las vistas desde arriba son lo único interesante de la jornada. Precioso paisaje hacia Guipúzcoa hacia el Norte y bonitas vistas al Suroeste, hacia el embalse de Ullíbarri-Gamboa y Vitoria

Por dar alguna nota positiva, el descenso es algo más entretenido porque se realiza parcialmente por bosque de roble a lo largo de una pista de tierra

Summit of the Elgea mountain range between the passes of Usakotxena or Usabakotxena (993 m), to the west, and San Juan (1041 m), to the east. To the west, the Usakotxena pass is guarded by the small peak of Mirubixkar (1048 m)

The Usakotxena pass is the lowest of those found in this part of the Elgea mountain range. From here to the east the other passes are higher. This makes this pass a busy route in the communication of Oñati with the Llanada Alavesa (Arabako Lautada). From Larrea (569 m) or Araotz (440 m) we can reach the Usakotxena pass and take the ridge to the east to reach the successive hills of Mirubixkar (1048 m), Burgamendi (1098 m), Sekillaga (1154 m) and Artia-Gaboño (1175 m)

My ascent

This route begins after passing the village of Larrea. The parking area is large, with space for 12 to 14 vehicles

The ascent to this summit is not very interesting. The route goes up a wide gravel track, enabled for the numerous 4WD vehicles that go up to the wind farm. The ascent is boring and unattractive. Once you reach the top, you pass a minor peak (Mirubizkar, 1048 m) before reaching the summit milestone of Mount Burgamendi. A geodesic vertex and a small milestone mark the spot. The wind blows strong on this ridge and the noise of the wind turbines is quite annoying





The views from the top are the only interesting feature of the day. Beautiful scenery towards Guipuzcoa to the North and nice views to the Southwest, towards the Ullíbarri-Gamboa reservoir and Vitoria

On a positive note, the descent is somewhat more entertaining because it is partially through oak forest along a dirt track
