According to mendikat.net, there are almost 250 mountains of 1,000 meters or more in Alava. This is Aitzandia-Olano, 1083 meters high
Description of the mountain (extracted from www.mendikat.net):
Also called Aitzandi, since Olano actually refers to the meadows on the NW slope. This limestone summit of the Altzania Mountains dominates the deep Hoya de La Leze (771 m), which can be descended from the Koloxka breach (931 m) to the west of the summit. From this breach it is possible to continue to Artzanegi (981 m) along the ridge, which does not involve any notable difficulty (F). The small summit to the E is called Olanotxiki or better Aiztxiki (1058 m)
My ascent
Long route that starts in the village of Egino, parking in a street of the village. From Egino you have to walk to the parking lot of La Leze, which is where the ascent to Aitzandia-Olano really begins. This trail to La Leze is almost flat, uncomplicated and through an oak forest
At La Leze you have to locate the climb with the chain handrail, next to the Berakaitz crevasse. The different sections of chains really help to ascend these first meters. Soon you reach the pipeline, which you have to pass over and under on several occasions. The path is sufficiently clear but you have to be careful not to lose it
From the beginning of the chains to the top of Aitzandia-Olano is a continuous climb, demanding, about 1850 meters with an average gradient of 26% and points of 30%. You walk on dirt trail and rock indistinctly. Be careful not to miss the WPT "Leave track on the right". On the rocky part of the trail it is important not to lose sight of the stone markers that help you to orient yourself. It is also important not to stumble because it is a very karstic rock
The summit, rocky and clear, has a small binoculars-shaped letterbox. Pleasant views over the Sakana valley and nearby villages
The descent begins in the direction of the adjoining mountain, the Aiztxiki, but without climbing it. The first meters of descent are quite rocky and steep and you have to use your hands to take some steps. To avoid having to climb the Aiztxiki, we border it on its west side, heading north, maintaining the 1030 meters elevation. We walk without a marked trail but without difficulty, until we reach a path (WPT "Track link"). We leave this track after a few meters to the right, towards a wide forest path through a beautiful beech forest. At a given moment we have to leave the track and climb up the mountain without a visible trail, until we intercept a new trail (WPT "Exit from track and climb without trail"). The descent continues without complications until Ziordia and, from there, on asphalt until Egino
The route is demanding in its first part, but relaxing in its descent. Perhaps it has a lot of asphalt (2700 meters) between Ziordia and Egino. It could also be done from the parking lot of La Leze, linear round trip
