Alava1000+ 1083 m Zorrikobaso

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Zorrikobaso, de 1083 metros

Mi ascensión

Esta sencilla ruta parte del pueblo de Gereñu. No hay aparcamiento público pero hay mucho sitio para dejar el coche junto a la fuente

El ascenso no tiene ninguna complicación ni por orientación ni por tipo de senda. Se camina indistintamente por robledal o hayedo. El único punto en el que hay que tener cuidado es en el WPT “Giro a la izquierda” porque hay que salir de la pista ascendente y coger una pista por la izquierda, casi imperceptible. Hay una piedra que marca el desvío



La subida propiamente dicha se reduce a unos 1600 m de longitud con una pendiente media de 16%. No es complicada ni requiere un gran esfuerzo. Una vez que se alcanza el puerto de Luzkando, la subida casi ha concluido porque ya estamos a 1040 metros de altitud. En el tramo final hacia el Zorrikobaso pasamos cerca de una cumbre menor (Basasakan, 1046 m) y junto a otra también inferior (Larrintxo, 1056 m)

La cima está dentro de un pequeño hayedo que cubre la parte superior del monte Zorrikobaso. Yo no vi ningún hito ni ninguna indicación que marcara la cumbre, tan solo un poste con marcas de pintura. Las vistas no son gran cosa ya que el bosque es relativamente cerrado. Solo hacia el Oeste se distingue Vitoria en la lejanía, si el día es suficientemente despejado



Es una ruta sencilla y entretenida. Si se recorre en otoño, los colores marrones y ocres son espectaculares

Nota: esta ruta, o parte de ella, es de ida y vuelta. Las indicaciones de los desvíos que se facilitan en el itinerario corresponden a la subida. Es decir, si el WPT marca “Izquierda”, es un desvío a la izquierda al subir, pero a la derecha al bajar

According to mendikat.net, there are almost 250 mountains of 1,000 meters or more in Alava. This is Zorrikobaso, 1083 meters high

My ascent

This easy route starts from the village of Gereñu. There is no public parking but there is plenty of room to leave the car next to the fountain

The ascent is not complicated either by orientation or by type of path. You walk indistinctly through oak or beech forest. The only point where you have to be careful is in the WPT "Turn left" because you have to leave the ascending track and take a track on the left, almost imperceptible. There is a stone marking the detour



The climb itself is reduced to about 1600 m in length with an average gradient of 16%. It is not complicated nor does it require a great effort. Once the Luzkando pass is reached, the climb is almost over because we are already at 1040 m altitude. In the final stretch towards Zorrikobaso we pass near a lower summit (Basasakan, 1046 m) and next to another also lower (Larrintxo, 1056 m)

The summit is inside a small beech forest that covers the upper part of Zorrikobaso mountain. I did not see any milestone or any indication marking the summit, just a post with paint marks. The views are not great since the forest is relatively dense. Only to the west Vitoria can be seen in the distance, if the day is clear enough



It is a simple and entertaining route. If you walk it in autumn, the brown and ocher colors are spectacular

Note: this route, or part of it, is a round trip. The indications of the detours provided in the itinerary correspond to the ascent. That is to say, if the WPT marks "Left", it is a detour to the left on the way up, but to the right on the way down
