Alava1000+ 1086 m Katarri

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Katarri, de 1086 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Esta cumbre perteneciente a los Montes de Iturrieta, apenas tiene un desnivel diferenciado de las cimas existentes entre los puertos de San Juan y de Alangua. Se trata una pequeña elevación en la cresta, situada al oeste de Larredez

Mi ascensión

Entretenida ascensión, saliendo del pequeño pueblo de Alaitza. No hay aparcamiento público así que intenta aparcar el coche sin molestar a los vecinos

Ruta sin ninguna complicación, se va caminando por distintas pistas y sendas, por bosques de pinos, hayas o robles. Inicialmente se camina en llano, hasta el kilómetro 3.3, en donde empieza una pendiente del 20% durante kilómetro y medio, hasta la cresta. No hay ningún problema de orientación ni con el tipo de terreno

Al llegar a la parte superior de la cresta nos encontramos con una sorpresa, una estela de piedra con dos cruces grabadas, una por cada cara. Desde allí sólo hay que caminar hacia el Este, pasando por unos puestos de caza de palomas, la Peña del Cura (1069 m) y Peñarredonda (1079 m) hasta llegar a Katarri (1086 m). Desde la cruz grabada hasta la cima se camina por una ladera pedregosa que tiene una suave caída hacia el Sur. Realmente la cima no es una cima como tal sino una cornisa un poco más alta que el terreno circundante e igualmente despejada. Desde Katarri, al Norte, se domina la sierra de Elgea, el pueblo de Salvatierra y el valle de Sakana, con la ruidosa autovía que va a Pamplona. Si miramos hacia el sur veremos Roitegui y si miramos al SO, Onraita. No vi ningún hito cimero, tan sólo tres o cuatro piedras apiladas



El descenso se realiza por el mismo camino

En resumen, bonita y sencilla ruta aunque es más interesante el ascenso y el descenso que la propia cima en sí

Nota: esta ruta, o parte de ella, es de ida y vuelta. Las indicaciones de los desvíos que se facilitan en el itinerario corresponden a la subida. Es decir, si el WPT marca “Izquierda”, es un desvío a la izquierda al subir, pero a la derecha al bajar

According to mendikat.net, there are almost 250 mountains of 1,000 meters or more in Alava. This is Katarri, 1086 meters high

This summit belongs to the Montes de Iturrieta, it has hardly a difference in elevation from the existing peaks between the San Juan and Alangua passes. It is a small elevation on the ridge, located to the west of Larredez

My ascent

Entertaining ascent, leaving the small village of Alaitza. There is no public parking so try to park the car without disturbing the neighbors

Route without any complications, walking along different trails and paths, through pine, beech or oak forests. Initially the trail is flat, until kilometer 3.3, where a 20% slope begins for a kilometer and a half, up to the ridge. There is no problem with orientation or the type of terrain

When we reach the top of the ridge we find a surprise, a stone stele with two engraved crosses, one on each side. From there we only have to walk east, passing by some pigeon hunting posts, Peña del Cura (1069 m) and Peñarredonda (1079 m) until we reach Katarri (1086 m). From the engraved cross to the summit you walk along a stony slope that has a gentle slope to the south. Actually the summit is not a summit as such but a ledge a little higher than the surrounding terrain and equally clear. From Katarri, to the north, we can see the Elgea mountain range, the town of Salvatierra and the Sakana valley, with the noisy highway that goes to Pamplona. If we look to the south we will see Roitegui and if we look to the SW, Onraita. I did not see any summit landmark, just three or four stones piled up



The descent is done by the same trail

In short, nice and simple route although it is more interesting the ascent and descent than the summit itself

Note: this route, or part of it, is a round trip. The indications of the detours provided in the itinerary correspond to the ascent. That is to say, if the WPT marks "Left", it is a detour to the left on the way up, but to the right on the way down
