Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Akarrate, de 1089 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Pequeña cima de la sierra de Entzia, en lo alto del cortado que domina el valle de Asparrena en la vertical de Ibarguren (622 m). No es una cima destacada sino, más bien, una larga loma que se extiende desde la cumbre de Surbe o Atauko Haitza (1154 m) en dirección (E) al puerto de Andoin (1017 m). Desde el raso de Legaire (1020 m) ofrece un suave declive de agradable y cómoda ascensión. Es precisamente, en Legaire, al S. de la cima, donde encontramos el menhir de Akarrate o de Akarte (1015 m) junto a un espino. Esta gran piedra se encuentra derribada y partida en dos cachos muy desiguales

Mi ascensión

Sencilla ruta, sin ninguna complicación. Se comienza en el pueblo de Ibarguren, donde no hay aparcamiento público; hay que dejar el coche sin molestar a los vecinos

Empezamos a caminar por pista de grava hasta llegar al primer cruce, que será a donde retornemos cuando bajemos de la cima. A partir de ahí se sube por un hayedo-robledal, por una ancha pista forestal y sin excesiva pendiente. En otoño-invierno, especialmente si ha llovido recientemente, hay una gran cantidad de arroyos y riachuelos alrededor

La subida finaliza al llegar al puerto de Andoin, donde giramos hacia el Noroeste buscando la cima de monte Akarrate. Pasamos junto a otra cima, el monte Kortaundi, de 1069 m. En esta parte de la ruta vamos junto a las campas de Legaire, en las que hay gran cantidad de restos megalíticos que merece la pena visitar. Esta zona está despejada completamente y se camina sin senda clara pero sin posibilidad de desorientarse

La cima del Akarrate (1089 m) justo se identifica por una pequeña placa conmemorativa pero no tiene ningún otro marcador. Hacia un lado tenemos la cornisa sobre el valle de Sakana, con la ruidosa autovía Vitoria-Pamplona abajo. En dirección contraria tenemos las mencionadas campas de Legaire



El descenso sigue siendo un camino sencillo que nos vuelve a meter en el bosque. Sólo hay una zona que requiere un poco de atención y es la que hay tras el WPT “Maleza”. Aquí hay unos 200 metros sin senda y a través de una zona de bosque que no está limpia, con muchas ramas bajas. Hay que avanzar con cuidado hasta llegar al paso de la alambrada

En resumen, sencilla ruta sin ninguna complicación de orientación, ni de tipo de pista o de pendiente. Gran parte es por bosque de hayas y robles, salvo la parte superior por las campas de Legaire. La cima es una cornisa sobre al valle, sin ninguna identificación

A small peak in the Entzia mountain range, at the top of the cut that dominates the valley of Asparrena in the vertical of Ibarguren (622 m). It is not an outstanding peak but, rather, a long hill that extends from the summit of Surbe or Atauko Haitza (1154 m) in the direction (E) to the Andoin pass (1017 m). From Legaire (1020 m) it offers a gentle slope of pleasant and comfortable ascent. It is precisely in Legaire, to the S. of the summit, where we find the menhir of Akarrate or Akarte (1015 m) next to a hawthorn tree. This large stone is found toppled and split into two very uneven chunks

My ascent

Simple route, without any complications. It starts in the village of Ibarguren, where there is no public parking; you have to leave the car without disturbing the neighbors

We start walking along a gravel track until we reach the first crossroads, which is where we will return to when we come down from the summit. From there we go up through a beech-oak grove, along a wide forest track without excessive slope. In autumn-winter, especially if it has rained recently, there are a lot of streams and creeks around

The climb ends when we reach the Andoin pass, where we turn northwest looking for the summit of Mount Akarrate. We pass next to another peak, the Kortaundi mountain, 1069 m. In this part of the route we go next to the fields of Legaire, where there are many megalithic remains that are worth visiting. This area is completely clear and we walk without a clear trail but without the possibility of getting disoriented

The summit of Akarrate (1089 m) is just identified by a small commemorative plaque but has no other markers. To one side we have the cornice over the Sakana valley, with the noisy Vitoria-Pamplona highway below. In the opposite direction we have the aforementioned Legaire fields



The descent is still an easy trail that takes us back into the forest. There is only one area that requires a bit of attention and that is after the WPT "Weed". Here there are about 200 meters without a path and through a forest area that is not clean, with many low branches. You have to advance carefully until you reach the passage of the wire fence

In summary, simple route without any complication of orientation, or type of track or slope. Most of it is through beech and oak forest, except for the upper part through the fields of Legaire. The top is a cornice over the valley, without any identification
