Alava1000+ 1089 m Peña Alangua

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es la Peña Alangua, de 1089 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Conjunto de pequeñas cotas de similar altitud que se elevan al W del puerto de Alangua (1076 m), precediendo a las cumbres de Atxuri (1091 m) y Larredez (1104 m), formando un escarpe blanquecino (El Peñascal), al pie del cual se acumulan derrubios (Peñas Caídas)

Mi ascensión

Corta y algo esforzada ascensión a la Peña Alangua desde el pueblo del mismo nombre, Alangua. Al final del pueblo, pasada la iglesia, hay sitio para dejar el coche sin molestar a los vecinos

Tras un corto trayecto por una pista despejada de grava y tras cruzar un portón metálico, nos salimos de la pista por la derecha para subir por la ladera hacia un pequeño pinar que se ve unos metros más arriba. El pinar esconde el hayedo que hay detrás y por el que caminaremos hasta llegar a la parte superior de la larga cornisa de Iturrieta. Exactamente, hasta llegar al puerto Arrizala

Esta subida por el hayedo se realiza casi siempre sin sendero marcado, caminando por el bosque. El bosque no es muy cerrado y está bastante limpio; la orientación con el GPS es fácil. La pendiente en este tramo es del 22%, aproximadamente y existe algún punto de pendiente incluso superior. No es difícil pero sí esforzada

Una vez alcanzado el puerto Arrizala la ruta se simplifica porque la pendiente desaparece. Existe una senda de tierra que va desde el puerto Arrizala hasta Peña Alangua pero yo he preferido sobrepasar un poco el puerto Arrizala hacia el Sur para ver cómo es esa zona. No es tan cómoda de caminar pero no tiene tampoco ninguna dificultad salvo alguna pequeña zona boscosa con ramas bajas

La cima de la Peña Alangua es una cornisa sobre el valle de Sakana, con vistas a Salvatierra y a Alangua, al Noroeste. Es una cima casi despejada y sin ninguna indicación geodésica, hito ni buzón



El descenso se realiza exactamente por el mismo camino. Puede estar resbaladizo si ha llovido hace pocos días porque hay tramos en los que el espesor de hojas en el suelo es notable

Nota: esta ruta, o parte de ella, es de ida y vuelta. Las indicaciones de los desvíos que se facilitan en el itinerario corresponden a la subida. Es decir, si el WPT marca “Izquierda”, es un desvío a la izquierda al subir, pero a la derecha al bajar

My ascent

Short and somewhat demanding ascent to the Peña Alangua from the village of the same name, Alangua. At the end of the village, past the church, there is a place to leave the car without disturbing the neighbors

After a short distance on a clear gravel track and after crossing a metal gate, we leave the trail to the right to climb up the slope towards a small pine forest that can be seen a few meters above. The pine forest hides the beech forest behind and through which we will walk until we reach the top of the long cornice of Iturrieta. Exactly, until we reach the Arrizala pass

This ascent through the beech forest is almost always done without a marked trail, walking through the forest. The forest is not very closed and is quite clean; the orientation with the GPS is easy. The slope in this section is approximately 22%, and there is some point of even greater slope. It is not difficult but it is hard

Once the Arrizala pass is reached, the route is simplified because the slope disappears. There is a dirt path that goes from the Arrizala pass to Peña Alangua but I have preferred to go a little beyond the Arrizala pass to the south to see what this area is like. It is not so comfortable to walk but it does not have any difficulty except for a small wooded area with low branches

The summit of Peña Alangua is a cornice overlooking the Sakana valley, with views of Salvatierra and Alangua to the northwest. It is a summit almost clear and without any geodetic indication, milestone or letterbox



The descent is on exactly the same trail. It can be slippery if it has rained a few days ago because there are sections where the thickness of leaves on the ground is remarkable

Note: this route, or part of it, is a round trip. The indications of the detours provided in the itinerary correspond to the ascent. That is to say, if the WPT marks "Left", it is a detour to the left on the way up, but to the right on the way down
