Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Hayalta-Piedra Picada, de 1103 metros

Denominada en muchos mapas Piedra Picada, esta cima bien individualizada se encuentra en las inmediaciones del término de Trasvaldelamañana. La divisoria de aguas cantábrico-mediterránea atraviesa esta cumbre

Al igual que otras cimas de Gorobel/Sálvada alejadas del casco o cantil rocoso sobre Aiara/Ayala, no es muy frecuentada por los montañeros, aunque en sus laderas atesora parajes dignos de conocerse. Destacan las fuentes/pozos de Mandagoa y Bustantiego, labradas en la roca. En la primera, en territorio losino pero cerca de un gran mojón que marca el límite con Aiara, se suele concentrar bastante ganado, atraído por el pozo y los pastizales de sus alrededores. La de Bustantiego está próxima a la pista que asciende desde Barriga

Mi ascensión

Ruta muy interesante que arranca desde un aparcamiento que hay a la derecha de la carretera BU-550 dirección Norte, en el alto de Peña Angulo, aproximadamente en el kilómetro 32. Este aparcamiento tiene cabida para decenas de coches así que parece que esta zona es muy frecuentada por visitantes que vienen a los valles de Losa y Mena

Tras abandonar el aparcamiento y pasar una primera puerta metálica, entramos en un pinar que nos conduce a unas vistas panorámicas verdaderamente sobrecogedoras de la sierra Sálvada, casi lo mejor de toda la ruta. Si se escoge bien el día y se hace coincidir la ascensión con un día con niebla, el espectáculo es impagable



Continuamos la suave subida hacia la lobera de san Miguel, de la que se conservan los muros y los dos fosos a donde eran conducidos los lobos para cazarlos. Poco después de la lobera debemos abandonar la pista por la que estamos caminando para girar a la derecha y adentrarnos en el bosque. No es un hayedo complicado; es un bonito bosque pero no tiene senda. Lo que nos vamos a encontrar es una valla de alambre de espinos que habrá que cruzar de alguna manera. Yo no vi ningún paso preparado para franquear la valla así que tuve que cruzarla por debajo

Una vez que superamos el corto tramo por el hayedo, alcanzamos un páramo en el que, en primer lugar tenemos una sencilla cima, La Pantorra (976 m). La cima no tiene más que un pequeño hito de rocas pero lo que son impresionantes son las vistas, sobre todo si tienes la fortuna de ver todo el valle sumergido bajo un increíble mar de nubes



Continuamos sin ningún problema por el páramo herboso, que sólo tiene arbustos y algún árbol de pequeño porte, y así llegamos a la cima, sin apenas esfuerzo. La cima tiene un hito formado por unas rocas apiladas y ofrece unas vistas infinitas de 360° sin ningún rastro de civilización, si exceptuamos algún parque eólico muy lejano



Hasta aquí, el camino de ida. El retorno hasta el coche es por el mismo sitio pero teniendo cuidado con los desvíos

Nota: esta ruta, o parte de ella, es de ida y vuelta. Las indicaciones de los desvíos que se facilitan en el itinerario corresponden a la subida. Es decir, si el WPT marca “Izquierda”, es un desvío a la izquierda al subir, pero a la derecha al bajar

Referred to as Piedra Picada on many maps, this well identified peak is located in the vicinity of Trasvaldelamañana. The Cantabrian-Mediterranean watershed crosses this summit

Like other summits of Gorobel/Sálvada far from the rocky cliffs above Aiara/Ayala, it is not very frequented by mountaineers, although its slopes are full of places worth visiting. The sources/wells of Mandagoa and Bustantiego, carved in the rock, stand out. In the first, in Losino territory but near a large cairn that marks the border with Aiara, there is usually a large concentration of cattle, attracted by the well and the surrounding pastures. The one in Bustantiego is close to the track that ascends from Barriga

My ascent

Very interesting route that starts from a parking lot on the right side of the road BU-550 northbound, at Peña Angulo hight, approximately at kilometer 32. This parking lot has capacity for dozens of cars so it seems that this area is very frequented by visitors who come to the valleys of Losa and Mena

After leaving the parking lot and passing a first metal gate, we enter a pine forest that leads to truly breathtaking panoramic views of the Sierra Sálvada, almost the best of the entire route. If the day is well chosen and the ascent coincides with a foggy day, the spectacle is priceless



We continue the gentle climb to the san Miguel wolf trap, of which the walls and the two holes where the wolves were driven to hunt them are preserved. Shortly after the wolf trap we must leave the trail on which we are walking to turn right and enter the forest. It is not a complicated beech forest; it is a beautiful forest but it does not have a path. What we are going to find is a barbed wire fence that we will have to cross somehow. I didn't see any passage prepared to cross the fence so I had to cross it underneath

Once we overcome the short stretch through the beech forest, we reach a moor where, first of all, we have a simple peak, La Pantorra (976 m). The summit has no more than a small rocky landmark but what are impressive are the views, especially if you are fortunate enough to see the whole valley submerged under an incredible sea of clouds



We continued without any problem through the grassy moor, which has only shrubs and some small trees, and so we reached the top, with little effort. The summit has a milestone formed by some stacked rocks and offers endless 360° views without any trace of civilization, except for a very distant wind farm



So far, the outward trail. The return to the car is through the same place but be careful with the detours
