Itinerary description
This path will take us to the Cuevas de las Palomas (or the haunt of the apes (baboons) that were once released in the area in the early 2000s, since removed ) the entire area we walk is sandwiched between the Pinar del Rey, Castellar and Alcaidesa. The La Alcaidesa farm, which we will skirt almost entirely, is owned by the Junta de Andalucía. 1500 hectares, but operated by a private company that has a hotel and rural lodgings of high standing and a hunting reserve, where mouflon, deer or wild boar can be found ,except during the hunting season of course. Tread quietly, especially at the point where we set off from- a perfectly maintained cork oak wooded area and you may be rewarded with the sight of a deer or two.
A magnificent path where we can see one of the best cork oak forests, if not the best, of the entire natural park. At the right time, that is, in early autumn or after the first rains it is a paradise for fans of mycology. The entire walk is on soft sand with only a few areas where thorny scrub makes it a bit awkward but all in all a great walk for any moderately fit outdoor loving family and kids. I have marked it as easy because there is little climbing and descent gradient to speak of. Reward yourself in the tranquil village of Castellar for a drink or lunch after

Look forward to trying this one out! Thanks Eddie
Hey, this hike looks great. Thanks for sharing. Is there a place to park the car at the beginning of the trail?
There’s tons of space to park as you start from a swathe of grassland /cork oak forest . Just drive off the wide track into any spot you like . Enjoy!
Thanks very much :)
You’re welcome
When u park the car the first thing to look out for is a little animal gate that takes u into the alcornocales oak forest. You should leave the grassy prairie on your left
Great! Thank you so much!
