Itinerary description
Alhama de Granada or Los Tajos de Alhama, is a natural monument that is located next to the monumental city of the same name, well known for the goodness of its thermal waters, in Poniente Granadino.
Alhama is located in a privileged geographical enclave, characterized by the environmental richness of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, whose peaks form the natural border between the provinces of Malaga and Granada.
This natural monument is made up of a set of canyons and sandstone pits, which owe their current state to the erosion of the Alhama River and the rockfalls that occurred in several earthquakes.
listed as Outstanding Landscape Los Tajos, have two very important complementary characteristics; one natural and one ethnographic.
The Medieval Way of Los Angeles (GR7) runs through its rocks, a very short route or walk, suitable for the vast majority of people due to its low difficulty and short distance. Ideal for families with small children.
On this enchanting walk, we come across the old flour mills, ditches, poplar groves and the hermitage dedicated to the Virgen de los Ángeles, where the muleteers traditionally stopped to ask the Virgin for protection on their way.
On this ocasión we took the path along the upper side of the gorge which affords great views of the village the ruins and the sheer cliffs. I would not recommend taking young children along this path instead keep to the river route there and back.
