Itinerary description
Alhaurín de la Torre - Mijas
LW1628 Walk Description – This is a classic B plus walk with wonderful views over Med, Coast, Guadalhorce Valley and Mountains. There are a couple of significant climbs and lots of level (almost) paths, as well as some terrific crest walking. There is NOTHING to bother anyone who suffers from VERTIGO.
We have to walk 400 metres upon a quiet road before entering an olive grove and a little later, a pine wood. This brings us to the very pretty,Juan Borrico gorge which takes us up 2kms with a rise of 325 metres to the saddle, above Torremolinos. Next we head SW upwards slightly to the ridge, passing extensive remains of an ancient settlement. We then stay on this course undulating gently, leaving the 2 mountain refuges behind us as we skirt below the top of the cable car and on to the 8km point. The next 2kms represents a tough uphill section before we summit close to the Benalmadena aerials, our lunch stop.
Feeling “ refreshed” we head in a NW direction and once more have some crest walking with extensive views, before entering woods, on our gentle descent. We then find a winding forest track which takes us gently down to the Arenales quarry, above Mijas.
