Alignements de Lagatjar - Pointe de Pen-Hir- Fort du Toulinguet 9 km

Beautiful and varied hike on the western side of the Crozon peninsula near Camaret with the famous Pointe de Pen-Hir, the Alignements de Lagatjar (rows of menhirs), beaches, bunkers, ruins, the Fort du Toulinguet, a large monument, a quiet and small forest, purple heather in the right season, cliffs, rocks and great views across bays, capes and the sea. The hike is largely on coastal paths and requires some steady footing on uneven terrain near cliffs, but is not difficult. There is a bar-crêperie at the Plage du Veryac’h, but that is the only restaurant on this track. There is some parking along the road at the Alignements de Lagatjar, but you could also start the hike at several other parkings, e.g. near Plage du Veryac’h, Pointe de Pen-Hir, the Musée Mémorial de la Bataille de l'Atlantique, and the beach parkings at Plage de Pen Hat and Plage Porzh Naye. Please note that swimming is prohibited on the very attractive Plage de Pen Hat, and that Fort du Toulinguet is not accessible for visits.
You first wander around among the menhirs at the Alignements de Lagatjar and then walk a short while along the D8 towards Pointe de Pen-Hir. You then walk through the hamlet Kerbonn and then take a path through shrubs past a place where people used to do their laundry, and then continue to Rue du Kreisker. A path follows a small stream through an unexpected forest. Just before the path gets to the shore, you take another path over a hill to the coast. You have a good view across the beach Plage du Veryac’h. You walk past the beach bar-restaurant and parking and then take the coastal path to Pointe de Pen-Hir with views of the Anse de Pen-Hir. The path takes you uphill through heather to the Pointe with views towards Pointe de Dinan and Cap de la Chèvre. At the Pointe you have magnificent views of this famous cape. You then take the coastal path north on the west coast past la Salle Verte and the Monument aux Bretons de la France Libre. The path gives excellent views across the Anse de Pen-Hat towards the Plage de Pen Hat, the Pointe de Toulinguet, and the Pointe Saint-Mathieu beyond. You pass ruins near le Bout de la France, and then get to the Musée Mémorial de la Bataille de l’Atlantique. Apart from the museum, there are several bunkers here you pass on your way to the Beach de Pen-Hat. The views are great here. You descend to the dunes flanking the beach, pass the parking, and take the path uphill to Fort du Toulinguet. You cannot access the fort, and pass the wall to the north of the peninsula. You keep following the coastal path, now descending towards the parking near Plage Porzh Naye. You pass above the pebble beach and ascend to the C3 road near Camaret. From here you follow a path towards ruins of the Manoir De Coecilian-Saint-Pol-Roux. You walk around the ruins, and then back to the Alignements de Lagatjar.
