Itinerary description
Almáchar is a beautiful white village with an amazing labyrinth of little streets and alleys going up and down and certainly worthwhile visiting and wandering through at leisure.
From the south-east side of the village there is a signposted walk, the SLA - 65. Here you can also park your car near the info panel of the walk.
We did not do the complete SLA - 65, but from the bridge across the Rio Almáchar took the narrow path along, and sometimes through, the river. There was not a lot of water in the river and it was quite easy to navigate around or along the wet parts. The advantage of this part of the walk is that you find yourself in completely different scenery than you would be in if you followed the SLA - 65.
After slightly more than two kilometres along the river we followed a narrow track to the south-east that will take you to a broad track at 300m. From here on the track will remain a broad one until you reach the junction with the SLA-65 coming from the south-west. From now on you will be able to see Cerro Patarra and the road will be a mixture of dirt and concrete.
After a last short steep climb you will find yourself at a height of 480m with a beautiful view all around you and from here it takes only a short while to reach Cerro Patarra.
The descent is along a very quiet concrete road giving astonishing views all the time.

We really enjoyed this walk. We did it in late January & the almond blossom was beautiful, but the wind was cold.
We found it a nice easy walk, but the uphill is steep in places.
Thanks for your reaction 😊
We walked it in februari. Nice walk with beautiful views. Indeed are some uphill parts pretty steep. Good to follow. We enjoyed it!
Thanks for your reaction! We enjoyed this walk very much even the steeper parts 😏
