Itinerary description
Walk begins behind the caves in Maro, a little village a few kilometres east of Nerja (and well connected by bus). The first 5k is along a dirt road and is accessible by car as far as picnic area called El Pinarillo. The climb itself commences about 2k beyond this, at a point where the road doubles back on itself at a small white shed at the base of the barranca. Your destination becomes visible to your left as an almond shaped peak.
The climb is steep and difficult in places, and the path is often vague and unclear, sometimes marked by small cairns and red dots/arrows.
As you begin your return, the path crosses several rockfalls and a large area of scree, and appears to vanish completely. You can however make it out on the far side of a vegetation covered valley below you. Not for the fainthearted, but the views are stunning and worth the effort. Allow 9-10 hours in total, and bring ample water supplies.
