Itinerary description

Circular route taking in good views of higher mountains to west and north, some very easy scrambling along the ridge from Cerro del Porrejón to Cabeza de Almiruete (all avoidable if you don't enjoy it!), and an easy trail to and from the Ciudad Encantada on the edge of Tamajón. On and off various marked and unmarked tracks, with a little "off track", mainly due to snow along the ridge. On the day I did this route (the Saturday of Carnaval week) I was fortunate to get back to Almiruete to find a party in full swing, with traditional costumes, log fires, hot caldo and roasted chorizo.

Some problems with GPS gave a jump in altitude, then a section of descent from Cabeza de Almiruete (on forest track) got missed out when the GPS couldn't get a signal. Fortunately I also recorded the route on a second phone. See route 22568549 - accurate route, but without the waypoints and photographs.

Winter views

Hare tracks? No human footprints since the last snow

Probably hare here, and there were clear deer and boar tracks elsewhere. And something else - maybe a rare wolf? Isolated canine tracks where there were no human footprints, but not clear enough to be sure.
