Itinerary description
With the Sierra de Jarestepar as a backdrop, this rocky ascent behind the village of Alpandeire is surrounded by views of rugged territory. The track soon begins a steep climb where your only companions are likely to be the birds of prey soaring above the rocky face. The weathering of the limestone rocks results in a multitude of shapes and patterns. At the top of the ascent, you reach a dirt track. At this point, it is possible to turn in either direction to circle back to the village. We turned east to reach the plateau that stretches south to Puerto El Candil with its views of Júzcar and Cartajima. From that point, an easy descent takes you to the quiet road leading back to Alpandeire.

Hiking poles were helpful as we picked our way between the rocks on the ascent.
Walk 10 of a long-distance walk through the Serranía de Ronda
From our journal:
We were sitting in an open area between some large rocks when we heard a loud “whoosh” right over our heads. We both ducked instinctively. When we raised our heads and look around, we realized that one of the birds of prey we had seen riding the thermals in front of the cliff had decided to check us out for lunch!
Possibilities for eating/sleeping
Hotel La Casa Grande - C/Barranco 76 A 16th century building with a convenient location in a village surrounded by numerous walking trails; delicious meals available in the restaurant; and a warm welcome from Jesús and Rosa.
