Itinerary description
Day 4 in the Bernese Oberland.
To ease the day and gain some time, I took a train from Grindelwald to Alpiglen. From there, the famous Eiger Trail can be joined, and the first part has a famous cascade visible up from the train station. Nice track, leaving behing the valley and the Wetterhorn, and step by step walking at the feet of the wall, the Eiger Nordwand. One of the most mythical mountaineering faces on earth, 1650 meters of human challenge. I cannot stop having chicken skin remembering that view from so close, and remembering legendary names as the white spider, Hinterstoisser, Kurz, the traverse of the Gods...
This track goes up to the train station of Eigergletscher, then down to the very famous one of Kleine Scheidegg. From there, I follow a path in the mountain west of the station, but not the usual track by the railway. Better views. After a while, it goes down and joins the track that descends to the beautifull and vehicle free village of Wengen, hanging on a cliff over the Vallay of Lauterbrunnen. Stopover in Wengen is recommended.
The last part is the step descend to Lauterbrunnen, and its magnificent valley.
