Alpujarras: Lobras-Tímar-El Fuerte-Juviles en recorrido circular (with English version)

Dejamos el vehículo en la pequeña población de Lobras, en las Alpujarras granadinas. Tras visitar su iglesia, consagrada a san Agustín, en la que destaca su torre-campanario, y algunas de las calles de esta antigua alquería andalusí, seguimos un tramo de carretera para casi inmediatamente tomar el sendero de la Acequia de los Castaños (SL-A 203), un apacible paseo paralelo a una acequia jalonado de castaños, quemados algunos de ellos por el incendio acontecido por estos lares en 1986. El sendero continua por un carril hasta la población de Tímar, que atravesamos. Conectamos con una senda muy paisajística que pertenece al GR-7 y que remonta el barrando de Lobras hasta las inmediaciones del fuerte de Juviles. Dejamos el GR para visitar todo el cerro del Fuerte, en el que, en los tiempos de Al-Ándalus se asentaba un castillo árabe del que ya solo quedan algunos lienzos de murallas y varios aljibes. El castillo fue destruido por el califa Abderramán III, en el s. X, para sofocar las revueltas mozárabes. Testimonio de aquel período es que uno de los aljibes exhibe numerosas cruces cristianas. Las vistas de todo el entorno desde la parte más elevada del cerro justifican con crece la subida.
Volvemos al GR y lo seguimos hasta la población de Juviles, conocida por sus secaderos de jamones. Tras visitar su iglesia de san Sebastián (s. XVI), dejamos el GR-7 y tomamos el PR-A 299. Este sendero escasamente balizado se inicia con la bajada por una antigua escaleruela que, progresivamente se transforma en senda y que contornea el cerro del fuerte por la vertiente conocida como La Solada. La senda muere en las minas de Retama, unas antiguas minas de mercurio de las que aún quedan numerosos restos. En las inmediaciones, también se conservan una era y una alberca de origen medievales. Descendemos una carretera durante un pequeño tramo para continuar el PR-A 299 por un trazado a la izquierda construido sobre la acequia cubierta de Lobrasán, acompañando a media ladera la rambla de Nieles, con fabulosas vistas a esta población alpujarreña. La senda conecta con el GR-142 que nos devuelve a Lobras por su parte más baja. El PR-A 299 continúa, sin embargo, hasta Nieles en dirección a Pórtugos, su destino final.
Ya en Lobras, damos un pequeño paseo por sus callejuelas antes de retornar al lugar donde dejamos el vehículo.
Un recorrido muy apacible y disfrutón por una zona muy poco transitada de Las Alpujarras.

Alpujarras: Lobras-Tímar-El Fuerte-Juviles in circular route (with English version)

We left the vehicle in the small town of Lobras, in the Alpujarras of Granada. After visiting its church, dedicated to San Agustín, in which its bell tower stands out, and some of the streets of this old Andalusian country house, we follow a stretch of road to almost immediately take the path of the Acequia de los Castaños (SL-A 203), a peaceful walk parallel to a ditch marked with chestnut trees, some of them burned by the fire that occurred in these parts in 1986. The trail continues along a lane to the town of Tímar, which we cross. We connect with a very landscaped path that belongs to the GR-7 and that goes up the barrando de Lobras to the vicinity of the fort of Juviles. We left the GR to visit the entire hill of the Fort, in which, in the times of Al-Andalus, an Arab castle was settle of which only a few canvases of walls and several cisterns remain. The castle was destroyed by Caliph Abd Al-Rhaman III, in the s. X, to stifle the Mozarabic revolts. A testimony of that period is that one of the cisterns exhibits numerous Christian crosses. The views of the entire environment from the highest part of the hill more than justify the climb.

We return to the GR and follow it to the town of Juviles, known for its ham dryers. After visiting his church of San Sebastián (s. XVI), we leave the GR-7 and take the PR-A 299. This sparsely marked path begins with the descent by an old staircase that progressively transforms into a path and that bypasses the hill of the fort by the slope known as La Solada. The path dies in the mines of Retama, some ancient mercury mines of which there are still numerous remains. In the vicinity, an era and a pool of medieval origin are also preserved. We descend a road during a small section to continue the PR-A 299 along a route on the left built on the covered ditch of Lobrasán, accompanying half-side the Rambla de Nieles, with fabulous views of this town in Alpujar. The path connects with the GR-142 that returns us to Lobras for its lowest part. The PR-A 299 continues, however, to Nieles in the direction of Pórtugos, its final destination.

Already in Lobras, we take a short walk through its narrow streets before returning to the place where we left the vehicle.

A very peaceful and enjoyable tour through a very little-traveled area of Las Alpujarras.
