Altea, Alicante, Valencia - Circular walk making use of the Camins d'Altea

We started this walk from the big parking place at the Passeo del Mediterraneo near the Mirador and we were really lucky to find a space there. There are better places to be found especially on the Cami de l 'Algar near the Collegi Public and the sports grounds along which this walk passes.

The first part of the walk is immensely imposing with its more than magnificent view on Cap Morro de Toix and Penyon d'Ifach.

Crossing the N 332 and passing the the edge of Altea is not the most thrilling part of the walk although the track stays close to the river and the view towards the Sierra de Bernia is superb. There even is a viewpoint for this. The rest of the walk really makes up for the this first part.

After going under the AP7, the track becomes more interesting and certainly very quiet pasing the ruins of an ancient mill and a number of nursery gardens.

After making the bend inland with beautiful views on the mountain ridges we decided to leave the marked track at the signposted junction and continued to follow the wide track until the first narrow track to the left presented itself. This narrow track will take you up and immediately the views get more impressive. After a short wooded part we followed the track across an open part to disappear into a wooded area again at a heighth of 100m.

Leaving the woods again the view towards Altea and the sea is beautiful, especially of the old part of the city from which the Església de la Mare de Déu del Consol d'Altea with its beautiful blue domes really stands out.

Descending to the AP7 you will join the marked trail again and we followed it toward the old city.

The old part of th city is a part that you can walk in into all kinds of directions and it has several viewpoints. We followed the red signs of the chuch up for the greatest part.

The plaza next to the church is very inviting to sit down and eat and drink something.

From here it is only down to the parking place which you can easily reach via all kinds of different and beautiful routes.
