Itinerary description
Another gorgeous hike in Amalfi! It was the perfect day for visibility even if that meant a hot day 🔥
We did a circuit to flank the valley from the north so as to go down to Amalfi (or as close as we could) before heading back to San Lazzaro. The trail to the valley was in good condition except that there is lots of deforestation here. I'm not sure why. The valley is a reserve so it's a bit surprising that such deforestation is happening right next to it. Sad.
Anyway, it was still nice. We even got to see Mount Vesuvius as it was a clear day. Going through the valley, it was mostly OK trails. It was marked well enough that you could see it but it was strange that there were no markings until just before reaching cascata alta, especially for being inside the reserve. Other than that, at just before km 5 of our hike, the trail basically disappeared and we had to go down to the river through overgrown bush including stingy nettles and lots of bramble! We did that for about 100 meters before reaching the river. So prepare your legs with a good pair of pants!
After that, it was great going down and seeing all the waterfalls. We did not go to cascata alta as that's when you have to pay the 5 eur fee. We didn't have cash so we just continued onto Amalfi. They say you need 10 days to be authorized to go but it's Italy! You can just go and pay if you want to see the tallest waterfall but other than that, you're free to hike it all. There's also plenty of opportunities for a quick swim in the summer heat! Not many people venture out here so that was nice. Path of the Gods takes all the tourist 😂.
Anyway, good and long hike and recommend it for its panoramic views and the waterfalls.
