Itinerary description
Drive through l'Ametlla del Vallès and up to the Santuari de Puiggraciós. There's a car park there and if that's full, there are plenty of places to park along the dirt track on the way up there.
The walk starts at the Santuari and you can do a tiny detour to the Torre de Puiggraciós, which is an old telegraph communication tower. Great views from here. There were lots of people around and big groups of people having picnics in the forest. Once you start going up, you lose the crowds.
Take the higher path leading up to the left (we came back along the lower one). We left the main path and walked up through the trees to the top of Puiggraciós. Again great views and an old Iberian village ruins up there. From the peak you go back on yourselves and then there's a very steep downhill bit walking under the electricity pylons. Careful if it's wet and it's pretty slippy. Tons of mushrooms around and evidence of wild boars.
You get a view of the Cingles opposite as you're coming down. It's steep but not difficult. When you hit the main path at the bottom, go straight over into the Espai d'interns Natural Cingles de Berti and following the signs for Collet de Can Tripeta. Walk up the red dirt track, spectacular colours, which turns into a sandy track. Great views all along and fabulous rock formations. We stopped for lunch up here.
Follow the sign for Torrent de Cal Mestret, Grau Mercader. You go past the house and then take a small stony path up to the right following the yellow and white PR signs. It's quite windy so keep an eye on the path. You can see El Clascar up above your and climb up to it (also known as El Castell de Berti). Just before you get there, you pass by some ruins, which are totally overgrown with a forest inside - great exploring for kids.
Go around El Clascar and follow the path. Look out for the path going up to the right (it's easy to miss it). Pass a couple of houses and Cal Magre and you come out onto a big open plain, covered in flowers. Big wide path and it's flat here so lovely walking with great views.
You go past the big stone table and then follow the sign for Montmany - written on a rock to start going down. Initially not as steep as the previous downhill stretch but follow the path carefully as you leave the main path and end up battling through a very narrow overgrown path for about half an hour. I ran out of way markers so follow the path carefully.
Wild strawberries line the path and lots of mushrooms. Look out for blue markers painted on the wall and you can follow them. Then you have the choice of cutting through fields or following the main path back to the starting point. The telegraph tower stands out on the hill above you showing the way.
Great walk, great views. Careful with the steep descents.
