Itinerary description
Andratx (Torrent bus station) - Coma de sa Teia - Puig de Garrafa - Coll de Garrafa - Comellar de Can Pau - Andratx (Supermercat bus station).
Roundtrip from the town of Andratx to the summit of Puig de Garrafa (462 m high) with extraordinary views of the Bay of Palma, Cabrera, Camp de Mar, Port d’Andratx, Calvià, Santa Ponsa etc.
The walk starts from the Andratx bus stop (Torrent). Follow the paved road and walkway until a water station (depositos de agua). There turn left between the water tanks and follow the path up the Coma de sa Teia.
After 2.9 km at approx 430 m height there are cliffs that constitute natural viewpoints with extraordinary views of the Bay of Palma, Cabrera, Camp de Mar, Puerto de Andratx, Calvià, Santa Ponsa, Mola de S'esclop, Puig de Galatzó etc.
Return to the path again to head to Puig de Garrafa. First descending slightly through a ravine and then begin a climb through rocky, pathless terrain until the top of this humble puig, located 462 m high, crowned by a geodesic vertex.
Not long ago there was also a fire watch tower on this site. Today only a square metal hut remains, attached to the ground with covered steel cables. The panoramic views offered by this place are excellent covering a good part of the Sierra de Tramuntana.
The descent is on the opposite side to the ascent passing the Coll de Garrafa, located 417 m high, and descending through the Comellar de Can Pau.
The path runs parallel to the dividing line of the municipalities of Calviá and Andratx.
The track is not signposted, but it is quite easy to follow the path up and down.
Skip the extra, unnecessary walk between the Puig de Garrafa and the previous mentioned cliffs and save 1.5 km.
The perfect day to visit Andratx is Wednesday, when the weekly market takes place. On this day, the streets are filled with stalls offering a wide variety of products, providing an opportunity to take a pleasant stroll while exploring the local offerings.
Andratx:
————-
Andratx is an ancient town on the south-west tip of Mallorca nestled in the valleys of the Tramuntana Mountain range (Serra de Tramuntana).
Its quaint, narrow streets and rustic heritage make it an authentic place to visit.
It consists of a tightly packed town-centre of rambling streets with reminders of the past on every corner.
Andratx town was established before the invasion of the Romans in the 2nd century BC who called it Andrachium.
Andratx was built inland due to frequent attacks from Barbary Pirates which eventually led to the construction of 14 watch towers in the 16th century - 12 of which still remain. Until the 20th century influx of overseas residents, Andratx was largely a quiet rural community - it now has a lively international mix of residents.
The sprawling outlying farmlands include a combination of luxury homes and working farms which grow a feast of fresh local products. The area is well-known for production of local crops such as oranges, almonds, olives and grapes.
