Itinerary description
A long and interesting hike around one of the largest mountains in the south of Chile and Argentina. Tronador means emitting thunder, so the locals called this peak with 8 glaciers because of the constant roar from ice collapses.
The areas adjacent to this massif from the east and north are among the most rainy in the central Patagonia of Chile-Argentina.
Passing this route, I could not miss (twice, back and forth) one of the most famous Argentinean hikes "Cinco Lagunas", which can be done in one long day in any direction.
For the GPT travelers there are good supply points in San Carlos de Bariloche (just half day trek from (to) Laguna Negra or hitchhike ride to (from) Pampa Linda.
The mountain huts and Pampa Linda have good meals but almost zero of food (snacks and cookies), in general they only take Argentineans pesos due to recent straightening of currency control (and failing economically as a state for a long time).
