Itinerary description
We went to Arriate looking to do a green route, that is to say along a river bank, surrounded by trees and bushland. We decided to do the Route of the Stream of the Breeze (Arroyo de la Ventilla). First we had our breakfast in a lovely Cafe in the centre of Arriate, decorated like a Railway Museum. Very interesting and worth a visit. Then we went by car to the bridge where we started the walk. And the route didn't let us down, a pathway through the woodlands, with trees, many types of bushes, tall ferns, and the river beside us all the way. We were accompanied all morning by the birdsong, mainly blackbirds, and the babbling of the Stream of the Breeze. We saw an hawk hunting in the bushes. The numerous pathways in the forest were so enticing that we decided not to go up to the village, where we had already had our breakfast, and we spent some time exploring different pathways. Some going no where or blocked, but one took us to a big cave, obviously frequently used for picnics and even for barbecue's. We had our snack there. At the Waypoint marked "Tables and Bridge" there is a picnic table. A short route, but fabulous. But a warning, the first part of the route is thick with thorny bushes and brambles. I would recommend bringing a Garden secateurs or wearing long sleves. The outbound leg can be done on one side of the stream and the return on the other.
