Itinerary description

Please Note this walk is no longer possible as the land has been taken over by Avocado farmers (probably illegally) and a gate blocks the road just past the old wreck. I tried this walk again on March 2021.
This walk is taken from the book 'Andalucía and the Costa del Sol' published by Sunflower Books.
It is walk number 16 The Beehive Walk.
The main part of this walk, is the valley of the Arroyo de las Colmenas (Stream of the beehives).
The walk starts by the Albergue (Youth Hostal) in Entrerrios.
There were 3 main problems following this walk.
1: The rains have damaged a lot of the paths at the beginning. There is a lot of overgrowth and the path in places is washed away, damaged and hard to find.
I would recommend walking up the Arroyo Laurel. (I had to double back to the Arroyo and start again as the path was getting dangerous in places.
2: The gate mentioned in the book was locked, so you couldn't get onto the road section.
I had to take a small trampled path that led back down to the other side of the Arroyo.
3: Because the gate was locked you couldn't get to the Talc mines and the Cortijo Colmenar.
This is a pleasant walk. Lots of Alcornoques (Cork oak trees). A good place for a break is the ruined Cortijo with the solitary eucalyptus tree. I couldn't find the beehives that this walk is named after.
There are 2 lime kilns on the route and 2 bars for refreshments, both very near the Albergue.
I would recommend wearing trousers and long sleeves, as it can get a bit prickly in places.
