Arroyo Guadalpín - Ermita de los Monjes - Cascada de Camoján (Marbella, Málaga)

La belleza de estas montañas se acentúa cuando llueve como lo ha hecho durante las últimas semanas y en cada cañada se oye el sonido del correr del agua bajando por los arroyos. Hay cascadas pequeñas y grandes por todas partes y los colores de la sierra se realzan con la humedad que brota del suelo.
Esta ruta es fácil. Sigue el cauce del arroyo Guadalpín hasta la Ermita de los Monjes, un santuario del siglo XVI construida por los monjes franciscanos y ahora en ruinas. Los monjes hacían este camino para llegar a la ermita, de ahí que se le conozca como "Senda de los Monjes". En aquellos tiempos estas montañas y bosques estaban poblados por lobos ibéricos. Curiosamente, al final de la ruta me encontré con un ermitaño que vive en una cabaña en estas montañas y me mostró un par de hermosas cascadas, además de invitarme a pasar para ver su refugio.
Tras la ermita, el sendero se dirige subiendo hacia el oeste y baja más tarde hasta la cañada de la Rana, al final de la cual nos encontraremos con la magnífica cascada de Camoján con su ruido ensordecedor una vez llegamos al asfalto. Esta cascada está en una propiedad privada, así que es bueno pedir permiso si se ve a alguien en la zona.

The beauty of these mountains gets accentuated when it rains the way it has been for the last few weeks and in every creek you hear the sound of water running down the mountains. There are smaller and bigger cascades everywhere and the colors of this sierra are enhanced by the moisture that springs from the ground.
This route is an easy one, it follows the Guadalpín creek bed up until the "Hermitage of the Monks", a shrine from the 16th century built by the Franciscan monks and now in ruins. The monks used to walk this path to get to the hermitage, that's why it receives the name of "The Path of the Monks". Back then these mountains were inhabited by iberian wolves and, sure enough, by hermits. Funnily enough, at the end of the route I ran into a hermit who lives in a cabin in these mountains and pointed me out a couple of beautiful cascades and invited me in to show me his shelter.
After the ruins, the trail heads up west and gets down to "Frog's creek", at the end of which we'll come across the magnificent Camoján cascade with its deafening noise once we hit the asphalt again. This cascade is located in a private property, so it's better to ask for permission if you see somebody there.
