Itinerary description
We started this walk at the beginning of the Playa de Atlanterra from a big car park. During the first three to four kilometres we followed the beach and while looking back we had wonderful views on the Acantilado Los Caños de Meca - Barbate, Barbate itself, Zahara de Los Atunes and Vejer de la Frontera.
We walked toward the point where the rocks jut out into the sea where an old bunker is situated, also giving a good view.
From this place we climbed the 125 steps to the road at a height of 60 metres and shortly after we took the fist opportunity to descend to the next beach again an idyllic bay which stretches itself in a beautiful curve towards the lighthouse, the Faro Caraminal.
Getting to the end of the beach of that bay we took the steep sandy track that leads you to the lighthouse. From the lighthouse itself you will have a wonderful view but it is really worth it to walk the wooden boardwalk with its 155 steps down, past an old bunker to the end of the rock with a splendid all around view deep into the Moroccan mountains. From the side of the lighthouse you will also have a good view of the Cerro de San Bartolomé and Tarifa.
From the lighthouse we followed the road to the place where we had first come up from the beach and then shortly after we descended to the beach again and followed the track along the middle dunes all the way back to the beginning of the walk.
We enjoyed this walk very much because it is full of wonderful views.
