Itinerary description
Balgjajt and Kacnie are some glacial lakes (over 18) located in Northern Albania. Due to the lack of communication and lack of interest from the authorities this place has been left as an untouched oasis for the mountain lovers. The road up to the field of lakes is very difficult even for off road cars. This did not discourage me and my friends to hire a local guide to arrange everything for us. We went up to a point where the dirt road was acceptable for normal cars, then we took an off road Mitsubishi. There are 5-6 lakes on the Balgjaj side, 5-6 on the Kacnie side and some others scattered around.
Around the lakes there are some sheepherders with their goats and sheep so, if traveling by yourself be extra careful of the dogs. It will be better to have a local guide with you. From this point it is up to you to find the proper trails to discover the other lakes. DO NOT MISS THE KACNIE LAKES.
