Itinerary description

See for more hikes on Fuerteventura: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6117e/41364/

This hike starts in Puertito de los Molinos.

The hike first takes you along the top of the cliffs of the Barranco de los Molinos and later on through the actual valley. Overall the trail is quite flat and there's not much more than 250 meter total ascent.

After following the ridge of the barranco for about 3 km, the road is closed off with a gate. The gate could easily be opened as it was "locked" with a piece of rope, probably just to keep the animals in or out.

When you have left the settlement Las Parcelas behind you, you have to cross the road and follow a stone wall for about 2 km.

Then you reach the dam of the "Embalse the los Molinos", the Reservoir of the Mills. Again you have to go through an iron gate.

The Embalse de los Molinos was also part of one of our other hikes, the hike that started in Llanos de la Concepcion.

From this point, you simply follow the Barranco de los Molinos back to the sea. At several points you have to cross the small river, using some stones in the river.

During a part of the hike we were under attack by very small flies, that were also biting. Very annoying! Bring insect repellent like DEET on this trip!

But the flies did not spoil the beauty of the Barranco. After seeing so much rocks and lifeless landscapes on the rest of the island, this hike with some vegetation was an enormous relief!

There were also quite a lot of skeletons from dead goats in the Barranco de los Molinos. Luckily we also saw some wild goats that were still alive. In addition, we spotted a family of ground squirrels in the barranco and several species of birds.

Back in Peurtito de los Molinos we enjoyed the strong waves bouncing into the cliffs for a while from the obvious mirador.

We really enjoyed this barranco and the hike gets 5 out of 5 points!
