Itinerary description
Impressive climb across the relatively low saddle from the east to the west coast of the Peninsula of Handía. Beautiful, wild coastline on the Cofete side. Can be extremely windy on the top. The walk goes near (you can go to it) Casa Winter, which is the stuff of legend - see photo 13.

This is Casa Winter. Built by a German (Gustav Winter, reputedly a member of the Nazi party) in 1937. There are all sorts of rumours that it was used to signal to German U-boats during World War II and was a centre for plastic surgery for Nazis fleeing to Latin America near the end of the War. None of this can be completely verified. It is a very strange large house with a central tower in which a lantern was said to signal like a lighthouse.
