Itinerary description
Day1:
With the private car we drove to the start point. The parking there is free. From there it takes about 2,5 hours to the Turtmannhütte where we were sleeping. (Reservation needed). The way to there is easy and not long.
Highlights:
- Turtmannhütte and the view to Turtmanngletscher
Day2:
The way up to Schöllijoch was sometimes steep and exhausting, but not very difficult Level T3+. Form Schöllijoch we wanted to go directly to the Äusseres Barrhorn. But as u can see on the map, we turned back. It was a snow-ice field which we did not want to cross without crampons. With light crampons it would have been not a problem. It was snowing 2 days before. After few days of sun, In August or September, there is no snow at all on the track. For the current track conditions, you can also ask the staff in the Turtmannhütte.
So we went back to Schölljoch and climbed to the Inneres Barrhorn (really steep).
Form there you could walk to Äusseres Barrhorn above the snow-ice field.
The last piece of the climb to Äusseres Barrhorn is steep and hard. Partly in snow. Sticks helped me there.
Highlights:
- The view from both of the Barrhörner
- Walking in this cold sunny high region.
