Itinerary description
We vertrokken in de hoofdstad Santa Cruz in de Barranco de Santos. Dwars door de wijk Barrio Nuevo gaat het via 1001 trappen omhoog tot de Cueva Roja om daarna het avontuurlijke pad rechts omhoog te nemen voor nog eens 300 hoogtemeters tot we aan het verlaten Parque de las Mesas de top van de heuvel bereiken. Zweten..zweten en puffen bij deze temperaturen...we keerden terug via de Camino de la Lecheras die bij momenten toch heel avontuurlijk is....Niet voor personen met hoogtevrees deze tocht en eigenlijk ook enkel aan te raden voor ervaren wandelaars . Voor de rest een prachtige tocht, vooral het stuk door de smalle steegjes van Barrio Nuevo kon ons bekoren. Opmerkelijk hoe men hier woont...

Crossing the Barrio Nuevo district, we ascended 1001 steps to the Cueva Roja before taking the adventurous path up the right for another 300 metres of altitude until we reached the top of the hill at the abandoned Parque de las Mesas. Sweating...sweating and puffing at these temperatures...we returned via the Camino de la Lecheras which at times is quite adventurous....Not for people with vertigo this hike and really only recommended for experienced hikers . Apart from that, it was a wonderful hike, especially the part through the narrow streets of Barrio Nuevo. Remarkable how people live here...
