Itinerary description
Large parking areas are available at Måbø and Vøringsfoss Kafetaria. Best option is Måbø, so the ascend will be at the start of your walk. The walk is well signposted and marked, mostly with red paint. After a short stroll past the grass coverred houses of Måbø and two wooden bridges, you will reach the stairs with allegedly 1300 steps. The 400 meter ascend though wooded area is rocky, but fairly comfortable. It brings you to a boggy plain, sparsely coverred with gang boards, to keep your socks dry. A slow descend will first bring you to the Vøringsfoss Kafetaria and Vøringsfossen vantage point, both on the flanks of riksveg 7. From here you will follow the old riksveg 7, now a comfortable bicycle path which ingeniously decends back to Måbø through a maze of curves and short tunnels. You will occasionally run into the new riksveg 7, which has its own separate course and (much longer) tunnels. The route has a nice extension which brings you close to the falls via a rocky trail next to the noisy Bjoreio river. In August 2016 the last part of the bicycle path was officially closed due to landslides. But we could easily pass and only encounterred some pieces of rock and some missing railing.
