Beeripmo 2 Day overnight circuit walk
It was my first overnight hike. Parked at Richards Carpark campground arrived from Melbourne at 12.30pm. Went clockwise direction steep uphill climb about 12km to Beeripmo campground free and ample campsite to pitch. There were at least 15 tents pitched by the time we arrived at camp around 6.15pm just before sunset. I didn’t anticipate to take so long to get up so around 5.3hrs uphill for beginner hiker. Next time I would allow a bit more time so leave earlier around about 10-11am. Took it very easy and slow as it was also my first time carrying a heavy pack. Took trekking poles as advised from research.
Carried my water 6L total as I didn’t have water filtering system to filter tank water at campground. Next time I would bring water filtering system to cut down weight. Drop toilets at camp ground so make sure to pack your own toliet paper. Temperature drop down to 0 degrees at night and stayed around 2 degrees the next morning. Was very cold and windy on the way up to pack extra layers and wind proof jacket we had light rain that afternoon and evening. Was glad I had brought a insulated sleeping pad made for 4 season so kept warm with a -05 degree sleeping bag. There are designated fire pits so was great to keep warm. We brought a Trangia so perfect to have a warm dinner and breakfast and coffee.
Next morning we had a lazy sleep in and started back on trail around 10am. We accidentally took a right turn at the crossroads of Freeman’s track which lead us to Mount Cole road. So we had to backtrack 2km back to cross road and saw the little sign. There was a large group of hikers pitched in front of the trail so we missed the sign. Luckily we had downloaded avenza app and offline free typography maps
Getlost Map Buangor State Forest (Special) Topographic Map V10e
Highly recommend to have this app as part of your navigation kit as there were a few times we had to refer to secondary map as wikiloc gps wasn’t reliant in some section of dense forest, with no signal.
We skipped mount buangor Lookout as we had gained 4km from our detour. From other hikers we opted to skip as views weren’t spectacular if you do decided to do which next time I would recommend to drop your back and hike 2km to Lookout and 2km back before mudhut campground. As you have to come back the same way. After mudhut it was a nice gradual slow decent back to Carpark a few large logs to climb over so take care with heavy load.
Highly recommend it was great would definitely do it again. Wikiloc has another little error with elevation graph.
