Itinerary description
Branch Creek, in Bellthorpe NP, offers a beautiful spot not only for a swim but the creek line begs to be explored. Our adventure is a 7km hike up the rocky creek and a 4km return along the forest tracks to the start point. Having said this, if your looking for a more relaxed day, its still worth walking a couple of kilometres along the creek and return back the same way to the car park. The creek is so much fun to explore. The first 2km in particular, is very easy to negoitate. After that there are some large boulder, ridges and waterfalls to scale if you want to go the full 7km. There are at least 12 swimming spots and waterfalls in this section (bear in mind it will be very slippery after rain). Once you have reached the end of the creek walk, use Wikiloc to guide you 100m up to a forest road on the ridge above. After 2.5km the road will end and you need to bush bash down along the ridge to the left which will take you back to the car park area. Our trek took us 6 hours to complete at a fairly steady pace.
