Itinerary description

These two short walks to the Arroyo de las Veguelas both begin at the same spot on Calle Moraleda, just below the parking area where the MA-8306 enters Benalauría. It’s easy to walk both legs, or just one or the other.

The upper route is a mostly level stroll that passes the restored laundry before reaching a bridge across the arroyo. There are great views of the arroyo along the way and a stone bench to sit on when you reach the stream crossing.

The lower route leads downhill, dropping about 200 meters to a crossing of the arroyo.
The trail offers close views of the surrounding terraces of fruit trees.

Notes
If you would like a longer walk, you can link these two legs via a connecting route. (Link coming soon.)

Walk 28 of a long-distance walk through the Serranía de Ronda
From our journal.
One of the joys of this route is the accompanying birdsong. There is hardly a moment when you are not aware of birds singing. This area is considered to be one of the finest birding destinations in Europe. During the spring and autumn migrations between Europe and Africa, you can expect to catch glimpses of more than 250 species. I love hearing them as we walk and wish I could capture the sound for this journal because it adds so much pleasure to every step. It is a particular joy to see the eagles and Griffon vultures soaring overhead. We are close to their nesting grounds in the Guadiaro Valley.

Possibilities for eating/sleeping
Villa Sila is a great place for walkers to stay in Benalauría. It is located right at the beginning of both legs of this walk and has many guides on its bookshelves to other walks in the area. From the balcony, there are wonderful views of the surrounding area.
Tienda Ana has groceries and character.

and a view of the lower track from the balcony: a mule coming up the track from the arroyo with his owner getting some help up the steep slope by hanging on to his tail (known locally as ‘mule-surfing’).
