Itinerary description

In April, according to the website, the Benalmádena cable car does not open until 11:00, so I decided to create a route that would get me up the mountain by hiking.
I started in Benalmádena Puerto by the Hotel Best Triton and walked up to Avenida Rocas Blancas where the hike really starts. It’s quite a long climb, and, I think it’s better to get the bus M121 or M112 so that you’re fresh for the climb and climb it is.
The path is yet another Spanish path amply scattered with rocks and small stones. I’m sure there must be a reason for this, perhaps to prevent erosion, but it does make the going really difficult.
Part way along the route there is a split with the right split leading to the Ermita, but you want the left hand fork to Puerto Viejo.
My plan had been to go to the cable car stop, but when I reached Puerto Viejo I found there was a further 15 minute climb. As I was then intending to carry on to the Trinidad Mine, I decided not to slog it out to the cable car.
The route up is quite exposed and it was a little bit windier than I would have liked, but nothing too impossible. Looking back you get some wonderful views of Benalmádena; you can even pick out the Buddhist Stupa.
The signs you see along the way refer to way as the PR-A-55.
