Itinerary description
This is a beautiful walk.
From the restaurant at the beginning of the route you will have a fantastic view of thismeromictic crater lake with a depth of 92 m.
There is a track that completely runs around the lake but although this might be nice for a stroll in the cool shadows of the trees, this track is crowded and there is not much view.
So much better to walk on beyond the lake into the open landscape of the Massif du Cézallier. Great views, very pleasant pastures, and more lakes, less crowded but not less beautiful.
To get away from the crowd we walked on to lake Montcineyre, after which we took the other side of Lake Pavin and went to the summit of Puy Montchal from which you have a wonderful view on the Mont Dore Puys.
A steep but not difficult descent takes you back to the trail that goes around Lake Pavin.
