Itinerary description
Many visitors to Bergen will take the funicular to Mount Floyen, from where a very nice view is to be had across Bergen, the harbor and the Atlantic Ocean. It takes only a little more effort (and about 2 hours of time) to ascend Blåmanen from here. Blåmanen translates into Blue Man.
The trail can be crowded in the vicinity of the Floyen station and restaurant, but soon after it becomes quiet. Take a step aside at Bjornebu, a little overlook with a small lake. A little further is the Brushytten, where snacks can be bought (provided the kiosk is open).
From here we took the southerly route up Blåmanen - do not miss the turn off the gravel path onto a more alpine trail. Near the summit is a huge cairn - the one that can be seen from below the Brushytten - the true summit is a little on - it is higher but has a more inconspicuous cairn.
The views are excellent, including to Mount Ulriken. Mount Ulriken is a little higher, and can be reached by cable car.
It is possible to continue in the direction you came, for a complete loop. For lack of time, we returned as we came.
